Oase AquaActiv AlGo Universal Pond Algae Treatment
Broad treatment for common floating, string, slime and brown algae
AlGo Universal is the broad-spectrum algaecide in the AquaActiv range. It acts on the metabolism of common pond algae and reduces their ability to photosynthesise, making it appropriate when the problem is mixed or cannot be isolated to one small patch.
Use it only after checking water values and removing as much loose algae as practical. It is intended for persistent algae in stocked ornamental ponds, not as routine insurance for a pond whose filtration, nutrients or oxygen have not been addressed.
What this treatment is designed to do
- Targets several common pond algae types.
- Reduces algal metabolism and formation of new growth.
- Available in 500ml and economical 5-litre bulk packs.
- Can be combined with physical nutrient control as part of a planned treatment sequence.
- Current Oase formula is compatible with fish and plants when used exactly as directed.
How to use it responsibly
Calculate volume accurately, confirm the label’s water-parameter requirements and apply the measured dose evenly. Remove decaying algae as it dies and keep the pond strongly aerated throughout treatment. Re-test water and avoid feeding heavily while a large amount of organic material is breaking down.
- Use biocides safely. Always read the label and product information before use.
- Do not use in an untested, oxygen-poor pond.
- Avoid combining it with another algaecide or medication unless the labels explicitly allow it.
- Remove as much blanket weed as possible before treatment to limit oxygen demand during die-off.
Calculate the real water volume after allowing for shelves, stone, pipework and filter chambers. If fish are distressed, oxygen is low or the water values are unsafe, stabilise the system before carrying out non-essential cosmetic treatment. Always retain the batch label and follow the current pack instructions, because formulation and regulatory directions can change.

Use it as part of the whole pond system
For isolated string algae, compare AlGo Direct. For single-cell green water, see AlGo Greenaway. Browse blanket-weed and algae treatments.
No bottled treatment replaces adequate filtration, oxygen, sensible feeding and routine removal of organic waste. Used for the correct problem, however, it can be a useful part of a measured maintenance plan rather than a guess-and-hope fix.
Frequently asked questions
Will it clear every cause of green water?
It targets algae, but persistent green water can also indicate UVC, circulation or nutrient problems that still need correcting.
Can I treat a pond with fish?
The manufacturer states it is compatible with fish and plants when correctly used, but the label dose, water conditions and strong aeration are essential.
Why remove algae first?
Physical removal reduces the mass that will die and decompose, lowering the risk of oxygen depletion and filter overload.
