Norfine 74cm Koi Net Head
A 6mm hex-mesh pan net with a wishbone click fitting
The Norfine 74cm Koi Net Head is a broad pan-style head for guiding koi into a controlled position for inspection or transfer. Norfine specifies a 74cm diameter, 6mm hexagonal mesh and a wishbone click fitting. This is the standard net head, supplier code NH557, supplied without a handle so that you can pair it with a suitable pole or replace a damaged head on an existing compatible setup.
Its purpose is to help bring the fish within reach while it remains supported by the water. A pan net works alongside appropriate transfer equipment, such as a koi sock or bowl. Plan the whole handling process before starting: a large net head is most useful when you also have suitable access, a secure handle connection and somewhere ready for the fish to go.

The 74cm measurement is the nominal diameter across the head. It does not describe the handle length, net depth or a maximum fish size. Check the space available around pond edges, covers and planting as well as the size of the koi you need to guide. A broad head needs room to move through the water without catching on nearby equipment.
Choosing a compatible handle
Norfine describes the wishbone connection as compatible with its own click-fitting handles and with most swimming-pool handles. That is useful when selecting a pole, but the manufacturer says most, so check the actual socket and locking arrangement before assuming compatibility. A threaded handle and a click-fitting handle are different connections even when their tubes look similar.
Our AquaForte aluminium click-fit net handles provide separately listed lengths to compare against your requirements; confirm the connection against this head before ordering a combination. Choose reach around the working position at your pond, allowing room to control the pole without stretching over the edge. Longer reach changes the leverage you feel, particularly while moving a broad head through the water.
Before introducing the net to the pond, fit the head and check that the locking points engage fully. Inspect for play, damaged buttons or a worn socket. If the pole extends, check its length-locking mechanism too. A secure head-to-handle joint and a secure telescopic adjustment are separate checks.
Understanding the mesh and net style
This standard model uses 6mm hex-mesh. Norfine also makes a separate 74cm Fast Flow head with 20mm mesh; those specifications should not be confused. Mesh size is relevant to the fish being handled, so do not assume that a koi pan net is suitable for retaining tiny fry simply because the overall diameter is generous.
For a smaller head, compare the Norfine 61cm Koi Net Head. The choice depends on fish size, access and how easily you can manoeuvre the net in your particular pond. Neither the diameter nor mesh size establishes a lifting capacity. Keep the fish supported in the water rather than using the pan as a suspended carrying basket.
Preparing for inspection or transfer
Have the destination bowl, sock and any other equipment ready before catching a fish. Move calmly and guide it towards a manageable position rather than repeatedly chasing it around the pond. Watch where the rim is in relation to the pond wall, fittings and the fish itself, especially when working close to a corner.
A Norfine koi sock net is a separate option for the transfer stage. Match the sock to the fish and the type of movement required, following its instructions. Keeping the roles of the pan net and transfer equipment clear helps you avoid trying to complete every stage with one tool. If a fish becomes distressed, reassess the handling process instead of persisting simply because the net is already in the water.
Cleaning, inspection and replacement mesh
After use, rinse debris from the net and inspect the mesh, its attachment to the frame and the click fitting. Check for tears, snagged strands or sharp damage before the next handling session. Let the equipment dry and store it where the mesh cannot catch on tools or become crushed beneath other pond equipment.
Norfine lists a separate 29-inch replacement pan net in 6mm hex-mesh for threading onto an existing frame. If the mesh wears out, check that replacement against your head before replacing the whole assembly. A sound replacement mesh will not repair a damaged frame or worn connector, so assess those parts independently.
