Soft, purpose-made koi transfer socks for controlled fish handling, with 9-inch and 11-inch open-ended options plus an 11-inch water-retaining model.
Price range: £22.09 through £38.00 (inc VAT)
Norfine koi sock nets are designed for moving koi between a pond, inspection bowl, treatment tank or quarantine system with more control than lifting a fish in an ordinary landing net. The long, smooth sock supports the fish during the transfer and the open end allows a calm release into the receiving water.
Choose the right Norfine koi sock
| Option | Opening | Water handling |
|---|---|---|
| 9 inch open-ended | Approx. 23cm | Drains during transfer |
| 11 inch open-ended | Approx. 28cm | Drains during transfer |
| 11 inch water-retaining | Approx. 28cm | Retains water around the fish for supported transfer |
Select the exact option above. The smaller 9-inch model suits modest fish and tighter handling spaces; the 11-inch versions provide a wider opening. Choose the water-retaining model when you want the fish to remain supported by water while it is moved.
Open-ended or water-retaining?
An open-ended sock drains as it is lifted, keeping carrying weight down and making it useful for a very short move into a bowl positioned beside the pond. A water-retaining sock keeps more water around the koi, providing extra support for a controlled transfer. It is heavier when full and must be supported with both hands rather than carried by the handle alone.
Safe koi handling
- Prepare the receiving bowl or tank before moving the fish.
- Guide the koi head-first into the sock while it remains supported in water.
- Control the open end and keep the transfer short, level and close to the water.
- Lower the outlet into the receiving water and release the fish gently.
A koi sock is a transfer tool, not a catching net. First guide the fish calmly with a suitable koi pan net or pond net. Avoid lifting a fish high above the ground, and never leave it unattended inside the sock.
Care after use
Rinse the sock with clean water after every transfer and allow it to dry fully before storage. If it has been used with a treatment or in a quarantine system, disinfect it with a fish-safe product before using it in another pond. Inspect the fabric, seams, frame and handle before each use; replace the sock if any part could catch a fin or fail while carrying water.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between open-ended and water-retaining socks?
Open-ended socks drain water as the fish is moved. Water-retaining models keep more water around the fish, reducing direct contact with the fabric during a carefully controlled transfer.
Can I catch a koi with a sock net?
Use a suitable pan net to guide and contain the koi first. The sock is intended for the short transfer from the pond or bowl to another prepared container.
Which diameter should I choose?
Choose an opening that allows the fish to enter without forcing or bending. If in doubt for larger koi, select the wider 11-inch option.
