Lotus Green Genie 24000 Pond Filter with 25W UVC

A flow through box filter combining foam, biological media and ultraviolet clarification

The Lotus Green Genie 24000, also sold under the Aquateck name, combines a pond filter box with a 25W ultraviolet clarifier. It is a practical choice for a garden pond where you can position the filter above the water level and allow the filtered water to return freely. The filter includes dimple foam and Flocor biological media, giving water a mechanical cleaning stage and a surface on which beneficial filter bacteria can develop.

The 24000 is the model designation and maximum stated pond capacity, rather than a recommendation for every pond containing 24,000 litres. Fish stocking changes the filtration required. Before choosing a filter, consider the actual water volume, the fish you keep and the amount you feed. A lightly stocked ornamental pond and a heavily stocked koi pond place very different demands on equipment of the same size.

Choosing it for your pond

Current specialist retail guidance for this model lists up to 24,000 litres as the maximum pond volume, with a lower guide of 12,000 litres for a fish pond and 6,000 litres for a koi pond. Treat these figures as selection guides, rather than a promise that any fish population will be supported. Growing fish, heavy feeding, strong sunlight and accumulated waste all need to be considered when planning filtration.

If your pond is close to a stated limit, tell us its dimensions, approximate fish numbers and existing pump before ordering. This is especially useful when replacing an older filter: a replacement chosen only by the old box’s size may not suit the pond as it is now. You can also compare the wider pond filter range before deciding on the layout.

What each filtration stage does

The foam intercepts suspended debris carried in from the pond. Removing that collected material during maintenance helps prevent it simply circulating through the system again. Flocor provides a separate biological stage, supporting the bacteria involved in processing fish waste as the filter matures. The UVC addresses the suspended algae associated with green water. These stages perform different jobs, so a clear looking pond still needs suitable biological filtration and routine water checks.

The Green Genie is supplied as a filter with an integrated clarifier; plan a suitable pond pump and connecting hose as part of the installation. When comparing equipment, separate the pump’s power consumption from the 25W UVC lamp rating. The lamp wattage is not the total electrical consumption of a complete pump and filter system.

Plan the water route before installation

This is an external box filter and must not be submerged. Water travels from the pond pump into the filter and then returns to the pond. Arrange the return so water can leave freely, and leave room to inspect it after the system is running. A gravity return is different from the pressurised outlet of a pressure filter, so do not plan to send the outlet uphill or through another restrictive piece of equipment.

Choose a stable position where the lid remains accessible. Think about where you will stand when lifting out the foam and where dirty cleaning water will go. Hiding a filter behind planting can work well, but building tightly around the lid or outlet makes regular maintenance awkward. Check the footprint and access space before completing landscaping or cutting permanent pipework.

Match the pump to the installed system

The published flow guide for the 24000 model is 6,000 litres per hour. Use the pump’s performance at the actual lift to the filter, allowing for the hose run and fittings, rather than choosing only from the largest number printed on the pump box. A pump positioned below the filter will deliver less than its maximum flow at zero lift.

Commission the system while you can see the inlet and outlet. Check for leaks, a clear return path and stable operation before leaving it running. Keep the installation instructions with your equipment records. Our pond water conditions guide explains the wider checks that accompany a filtration system, including why appearance alone is not a complete picture of water quality.

Starting a new biological filter

A new filter does not immediately have the same biological capacity as an established one. Allow the media to mature, monitor the water and adjust feeding to the pond’s condition. Follow the supplied instructions for the initial UVC start up sequence. Keep a note of installation and lamp replacement dates so future maintenance is based on the equipment’s service history.

If you are replacing a working filter, plan the changeover before disconnecting it. Avoid treating the new equipment as a reason to add more fish immediately. Contact us with details of the existing system if you need help deciding how to arrange the replacement.

Cleaning and replacement parts

Keep the filter accessible for checking the foam, removing collected debris and servicing the UVC. Disconnect the electrical supply before maintenance and follow the instructions supplied with the unit. The UV lamp and quartz sleeve require careful handling, and the UVC must remain enclosed during operation. Never inspect an illuminated bare UV lamp.

When the foam needs replacing, our Lotus Green Genie 24000 replacement foam set provides a relevant starting point. Check the model and the existing parts before ordering, particularly when servicing an older filter. If you need help matching a filter, pump or replacement component, contact That Pond Guy with the equipment label and photographs of the current installation.

Compare the larger Green Genie model

Also consider the Lotus Green Genie 30000 pond filter with 25W UVC. Compare the recommended flow and the fish load in your pond before choosing a filter; a larger model name does not guarantee suitability for every pond.
