Kockney Koi Filter Wadding Roll – 25m x 1m

This Kockney Koi filter wadding roll provides a larger supply of material for cutting replacement fine mechanical pads for a compatible pond filter. The roll is 25 metres long and one metre wide. It suits an installation where the filter is designed to accept this type of wadding and where buying a roll makes more sense than ordering a separate sheet each time.

Filter wadding is also called filter wool or filter floss. Its purpose is to collect small suspended particles as water passes through it, so that the retained material can be removed during maintenance. It is a consumable mechanical layer within the filtration arrangement; it does not replace the filter’s biological media, its coarse debris separation or routine water-quality checks.

The area is the roll length multiplied by its width. It is not a pond-volume rating or an indication of how much water the material will treat. A filter, pump, supporting grid, biological media and fitting accessories are not included. The roll should be chosen against the requirements of your actual filter rather than simply against the number of litres in the pond.

When a roll is more useful than individual pads

A roll can be convenient when several compatible filter chambers need the same replacement material, or when you already know the shape of a pad that you regularly cut. It lets you plan a series of replacements from one supply. Keep a note of the dimensions of each pad so that you can work out the number of replacements the roll will give you before ordering.

For example, cutting the full metre width into one-metre lengths would produce 25 nominal metre-square pieces before any trimming. Smaller pads may be arranged across the width to reduce offcuts. Actual yield depends on their dimensions, the direction in which you cut them and the allowance needed around an irregular chamber. Leave room for those practical losses rather than assuming that every square centimetre will become a usable pad.

If you only need one small replacement, compare our pond filter wool pads. Their sheet dimensions are clearly listed so that you can choose a smaller supply. They are a different retail format; a sheet or another supplier’s roll should not be assumed to have identical thickness simply because both products are called filter wool.

Check your filter before adding a fine layer

Use wadding where the filter has provision for a removable fine mechanical stage. Follow the filter manufacturer’s layout for supports, flow direction and bypass or overflow arrangements. The pad needs to be held in its intended position while remaining accessible for inspection. Loose material should not be able to move into an outlet or be drawn into equipment downstream.

A fine layer collects debris and can restrict circulation as it loads. Do not pack several extra layers into a chamber to try to make the water clear more quickly, or cover an inlet that was not designed for this material. That can change the way water moves through the filter and increase the attention the installation needs. The correct arrangement is the one that allows the filter to operate and be maintained as its manufacturer intended.

Measuring and cutting replacement pads

Measure the support or pad space rather than relying only on an old piece that has stretched, folded or become compressed. Make a simple template for an irregular shape, marking any opening that must remain clear. Plan the cuts on the roll before starting so that the width is used efficiently and the remaining material stays in a useful shape.

Work on a clean surface with suitable sharp cutting tools, keeping the material away from soil, paint, cleaners and other contaminants. Prepare one pad at a time if you are still checking the fit. It should sit in the intended support without an unnecessary fold, a tightly compressed edge or a gap that directs the water around the mechanical layer. Do not use a product photo as a dimensional template.

Fitting, monitoring and replacing the wadding

Safely isolate the relevant equipment before opening the filter or reaching into a chamber. Remove the used pad carefully so that the collected debris is taken out with it. Inspect the support and nearby water route, then install the new piece in the specified position. Restart the installation according to the equipment instructions and check the water level, return flow and overflow route.

Inspect a newly fitted pad frequently at first, especially after pond cleaning or a period of heavy debris. A calendar interval cannot account for every pond’s feeding, plant material and suspended solids. Replace the material before it causes an unwanted change in the filter’s flow or water level. If a pad is damaged, has lost its shape or no longer sits reliably in its support, replace it rather than forcing it back into service.

Choosing the right type of replacement media

Wadding and foam perform different jobs in a filter layout. Our pond filter foam sets offer graded foam sheets for suitable mechanical stages. They are alternatives for the appropriate position, not a reason to remove the original fine pad or to rearrange a filter without checking its instructions. Biological media should also remain in the arrangement specified for that filter.

Keep unused wadding clean and protected between replacements. A dry, clean storage area makes it easier to maintain the material’s condition and avoids introducing workshop contaminants into the pond. Before ordering, check the required pad dimensions, accessible fitting position and storage space for the remaining roll. This listing provides no unverified micron, pressure, flow-rate or pond-capacity claim.
