Build a feeding routine around the pond
Measure water temperature in the pond. Begin with small portions and watch what is eaten before adding more. Reduce feeding when appetite falls or water quality deteriorates. Increase the ration gradually as conditions improve, particularly after a quiet winter period or a change to the filter.
Check that smaller or quieter fish receive food as well as the most active feeders. For sinking food, observe the area below the surface. Count any treats within the daily ration and remove uneaten food.
Pack size and freshness
Choose a quantity that can be used while fresh. A larger pack is useful only if it suits the feeding rate and can be stored correctly. Litres measure volume and kilograms measure weight; compare declared food weights where possible. Keep food sealed, cool and dry, use a dry scoop and follow the pack’s best-before date.

Is Saki-Hikari the same as the standard Hikari range?
They are distinct ranges. Saki-Hikari formulas have their own Hikari-Germ formulation and feeding directions. Compare the named food rather than transferring a nutrition table between Hikari Gold, Saki-Hikari Colour and other products.
Which Saki-Hikari food is suitable for cooler water?
Hikari UK lists Multi-Season from 5°C. Balance, Growth and Pure White have different UK thresholds of 11°C, 16°C and 12°C respectively. Fish activity and the supplied pack still determine whether and how much to feed.
Can Deep Red be fed like an ordinary colour food?
Use its specific programme. Hikari describes a specialised warm-water colour diet and gives a mixing example of one part Deep Red to two parts Balance. Exclusive feeding can affect white areas, so read the full directions before use.
