Check the pond before treating

Start by testing ammonia, nitrite, pH and, where relevant, KH. Poor water quality can cause lethargy, flashing, excess mucus, sore skin and secondary infection, so adding medication without checking the water can hide the real cause. Work out the actual pond volume after allowing for shelves, rockwork, pipework and filter chambers; a guessed volume can lead to under-dosing or over-dosing.

Calculate the pond volume and use the tablet quantity specified on the current pack. Distribute the prepared treatment as directed, maintain aeration and monitor the fish. Examine fish again after the manufacturer’s stated interval because attached parasites and environmental life stages may not all be noticed at the first inspection.

• Do not use with another fish medication at the same time unless Waterlife specifically permits it.
• Remove activated carbon, zeolite and other chemical-adsorption media if the current label instructs you to do so.
