Waterlife Sterazin P Fluke & Worm Treatment
A manufacturer-specified pond treatment for gill and body flukes
Sterazin P is Waterlife’s liquid pond parasiticide for the control of gill and body flukes. Flukes are microscopic flatworms, so flashing, rubbing or rapid breathing alone is not a reliable diagnosis. A skin or gill scrape is the best way to distinguish them from water-quality irritation and other parasites.
Choose Sterazin P when flukes have been identified or the diagnosis is supported by experienced advice. Waterlife also states that the treatment can be used to sterilise new aquatic plants before introduction, but this must follow the current product directions rather than an improvised concentration or soak time.
What this Waterlife treatment is for
- Waterlife treatment for gill and body flukes in garden ponds.
- Aims to stop parasite-related flicking, rubbing and irritation.
- Five-day course with 500ml and 1 litre supplier-stocked sizes.
- Manufacturer also describes a plant-sterilising use under its current directions.
- Safe for fish, pond plants and filtration bacteria when used as directed.
Check the pond before treating
Start by testing ammonia, nitrite, pH and, where relevant, KH. Poor water quality can cause lethargy, flashing, excess mucus, sore skin and secondary infection, so adding medication without checking the water can hide the real cause. Work out the actual pond volume after allowing for shelves, rockwork, pipework and filter chambers; a guessed volume can lead to under-dosing or over-dosing.
Use the complete five-day course and exact dosing days printed on the current bottle. Maintain aeration and calculate the pond volume carefully. If a scrape still shows parasites after the permitted course and follow-up interval, seek advice before repeating or changing medication.
- Do not use with another fish medication at the same time unless Waterlife specifically permits it.
- Remove activated carbon, zeolite and other chemical-adsorption media if the current label instructs you to do so.
- Follow the current label regarding UV clarifiers and ozone during the treatment course.
- Do not use a preventative dose simply to compensate for poor water quality or an unconfirmed diagnosis.
- Check the current label for species restrictions and invertebrate compatibility before use.
Read the current container label before every use because formulations, directions and regulatory wording can change. Do not mix remedies unless the manufacturer explicitly says they are compatible. Keep strong aeration running, watch the fish during treatment and obtain specialist advice when the diagnosis is uncertain or fish are severely distressed.
Available sizes and stated coverage
| Pack size | Manufacturer’s stated coverage | Supplier code |
|---|---|---|
| 500ml | 5-day course for 7,200 litres | WR219 |
| 1 Litre | 5-day course for 14,400 litres | WR342 |
Use it as part of a complete pond-care plan
For crustacean parasites such as fish lice and anchor worm, compare Parazin P. For protozoan problems, see Medizin P. Browse pond fish-health treatments.
A treatment can correct a specific problem, but long-term results still depend on appropriate filtration, circulation, oxygen, stocking and feeding. Remove decaying waste, clean mechanical filtration sensibly and retest the water after the course instead of repeatedly adding products by appearance alone.
Frequently asked questions
What does Sterazin P treat?
Waterlife identifies Sterazin P for the control of gill and body flukes in pond fish.
Does fish flicking prove that flukes are present?
No. Poor water quality and several other parasites can cause similar behaviour. Test the water and use a scrape where possible.
How long is the course?
Waterlife describes a five-day course. Follow the exact dosing schedule on the current container.
Can it be used on pond plants?
Waterlife describes a plant-sterilising use, but only the current label should be used for the concentration and method.
