Choosing the Koi-Flow 20 set

The Koi-Flow 20 is the lowest-output option in the three-model Koi-Flow kit range. It brings together the pump and consumables needed to create several aeration points, with a smaller housing and lower stated power consumption than the 30 and 60. This makes it worth considering where the air requirement is modest and space for the pump is limited. Selection still needs to reflect the resistance and demand of the actual installation; SuperFish does not give this model a universal pond-volume rating in the cited specifications.

Compare the Koi-Flow 30 set if you need more air: its maximum output is 1,800 litres per hour at a stated 25W. The Koi-Flow 60 set increases the maximum to 3,600 litres per hour at 35W. All three kits include six stones and 50m of hose, so moving up the range changes the pump capacity rather than the number of supplied aeration points.

Kit contents and planning the airline runs

This listing is for the Koi-Flow 20 kit, which includes the air pump, six airstones and a total of 50 metres of airline. SuperFish also lists bare Koi-Flow pumps, making the kit designation important when comparing products. The hose allowance is shared across the installation: it is not 50 metres for each stone.

Measure the route from the planned pump position to each aeration point before cutting the hose. Include bends around the pond edge and the section entering the water, while leaving sufficient access to lift a stone for inspection. Avoid trapped or kinked runs. What the airflow and pressure figures tell you

SuperFish quotes a maximum capacity of 1,200 litres per hour, equivalent to 20 litres per minute. The separately published pressure figure is 0.025MPa. These should not be combined into a claim that the pump delivers its maximum flow at that pressure. The depth of the stones and resistance of the connected equipment affect the working conditions.

Dividing 20 litres per minute by six also does not establish the airflow at each stone. Hose routes, immersion depths and restrictions can differ between branches. Once installed, check that each intended point is receiving air. A weak branch warrants inspection rather than an assumption that a larger pump will automatically cure the problem.

Where to position the pump and stones

The manufacturer’s installation instruction is to keep the pump in a dry place, protected from moisture, and above the water level. This position matters because water can siphon back through an airline and damage a pump installed too low. A long airline allowance does not remove the need for suitable siting. Arrange the electrical connection in accordance with the supplied instructions.

The pump body is 23 × 18.5 × 18cm, with a stated cable length of 1.87m. Allow room for the hose connections and maintenance access beyond the body dimensions. Check the reach to the intended power supply as part of planning, rather than choosing a location solely because the housing fits.

SuperFish explains that the rising air creates water movement, supporting gas exchange at the surface. The manual also describes placing an airstone in a filter to support its biological process. Choose locations that suit the pond and filter arrangement. In winter, the stated application is helping keep an existing ice hole open; it is not a guarantee that the whole pond will remain ice-free.

Maintenance and the correct service kit

Reduced delivery can result from a kinked hose or debris in an airstone. The manual also identifies wear in the air-chamber valves and diaphragms as possible causes. Check the external air path when investigating poor output, and isolate the electrical supply before servicing the pump.

The exact Koi-Flow 20 service-kit reference is 07010275. SuperFish lists two membranes, two air chambers, two connecting hoses and one air filter in its service kits. This is a separate maintenance product; it should not be confused with the aeration kit supplied here. The 30 and 60 have different service-kit references, so retain the model number when arranging replacement parts.

SuperFish recommends replacing the airline and stones annually. Include their condition in routine checks, as damaged hose and deteriorated stones can reduce performance. Follow the model’s manual for internal work rather than assuming instructions for another air pump apply.
