Prymax Pond Sealer – Clear is a ready to use, single pack polyurethane pond sealer designed to waterproof and protect suitable concrete, render and porous mineral surfaces. It is intended for pond builders, landscapers and serious DIY pond owners who need a hard wearing below-waterline coating rather than a decorative masonry paint.

The coating cures to create a tough, non-absorbent surface that helps stop water soaking into the pond structure. That makes it a useful option for concrete ponds, rendered blockwork, formal water features and refurbishment work where the surface is sound, stable and properly prepared. Once cured, the finish is designed to be durable, chemical resistant and easier to clean than bare render or porous concrete.

The clear version provides a clear waterproof coating where the natural surface colour needs to be retained or where it is being used as part of a clear preparation system. Prymax is particularly suited to jobs where a fast drying polyurethane system is preferred, as each coat can normally become ready for the next stage far quicker than many traditional pond coating systems, depending on temperature and humidity.

Good surface preparation is essential. The surface should be dry, porous, clean and free from dust, laitance, grease, loose render, algae and old unstable coating. New concrete or render must be allowed to cure properly before coating, and any cracks, voids or weak areas should be repaired before the sealer is applied. Pond paint and sealers are not structural repairs, so movement, hollow render or failed construction must be corrected first.

Application and preparation guidance

Apply Prymax only to a clean, dry and porous substrate. Remove contamination, algae, dust and loose material before starting. Mask fittings, pipe penetrations and viewing windows carefully, and make sure any sealants, tank connectors or returns are compatible with the coating system being used.

Use suitable PPE and ventilation while applying polyurethane pond sealers. Stir the product before use and apply consistent coats by brush or roller, working it into corners and around details. Do not allow rain, condensation, frost or pond water to affect the coating during the curing period. Once fully cured, wash the surface and drain before the final fill.

Important note before filling the pond

Always allow the coating to cure fully before filling the pond. After curing, wash the coated surface thoroughly, drain away the wash water and then refill with fresh, dechlorinated water suitable for fish. If the pond contains koi or other valuable fish, test the water before reintroducing livestock.
