Oase PE Preformed Garden Ponds
Five pond sizes with shaped planting areas, from 150 to 1,000 litres
The Oase PE preformed pond range provides a ready-shaped shell for building a garden pond. Each pond has an organic outline and moulded changes in depth, giving you a defined shape to excavate around and areas for arranging suitable aquatic plants. Choose from 150, 250, 500, 750 and 1,000-litre models to suit the space available and the kind of pond you want to create.
A preformed shell is a useful alternative to designing a pond entirely with flexible pond liner. The outline and deeper sections are already established, so the main installation task is preparing a level excavation that supports the shell properly. The finished appearance still leaves plenty of scope for your own planting, edging and surrounding garden design.
Dimensions for every size
| Model | Capacity | Length × width × height | Oase code |
|---|---|---|---|
| PE 150 | 150 litres | 120 × 80 × 45cm | 36790 |
| PE 250 | 250 litres | 135 × 92 × 54cm | 36767 |
| PE 500 | 500 litres | 178 × 126 × 56cm | 36768 |
| PE 750 | 750 litres | 210 × 140 × 60cm | 36769 |
| PE 1000 | 1,000 litres | 240 × 140 × 62cm | 36770 |
These are Oase’s overall dimensions, rather than a rectangular excavation template or a guarantee of water depth at every point. The shells have irregular outlines and planting shelves. Use the actual pond to mark out the shape and the different levels before digging, and allow working space around it for supporting backfill.
Choosing the right pond for your garden
The PE 150 is the most compact option, with a 120 × 80cm footprint and a 150-litre capacity. It suits a small pond project where space is limited and a modest area of open water is wanted. The PE 250 adds capacity while remaining a relatively compact shell, measuring 135 × 92cm across its longest and widest points.
The PE 500 increases the footprint to 178 × 126cm and provides 500 litres of nominal capacity. For more space, the PE 750 and PE 1000 offer 750 and 1,000 litres respectively. Both are 140cm wide overall, but the PE 1000 is longer at 240cm compared with 210cm for the PE 750. Measure access to the installation area as well as the final location before choosing one of the larger shells.
Water volume is only one part of planning a pond. Plant baskets, stones and other items displace water, while the final water level also affects the working volume. If you plan to keep fish, consider their adult size, stocking level, filtration and oxygen needs. A small ornamental pond should not be treated as a grow-on tank for an expanding koi collection.
Planting shelves and a natural-looking edge
Oase moulds different depth zones into these ponds, allowing plants with different requirements to be arranged around the water. Match each plant’s recommended planting depth to its position and account for the height of the basket. Leave sufficient open water and space for access to any pump or filter equipment.
The pond’s shaped edge can be integrated into the surrounding garden using suitable planting and edging materials. Plan the finished water level and surrounding ground level together so that the rim is concealed neatly without directing soil and surface runoff into the pond. Avoid allowing heavy slabs or rocks to place unsupported loads on the shell.
Installation: level and fully supported
Oase’s installation guide recommends a position away from deciduous trees and conifers, with approximately four to six hours of sunlight daily. Place the empty pond where you want it, mark its outline and then mark the successive depth zones. Excavate to follow those levels and test-fit the shell before completing the base.
Use suitable sand to correct uneven areas, then check that the pond sits level in both directions. The base and shaped sections need support. Once level, add about 150mm of water and backfill around the pond with wet sand to the same level, filling the surrounding cavities. Continue in stages until the shell is supported. Follow the supplied instructions throughout and do not leave voids beneath shelves or around the deeper sections.
These shells are intended for a properly supported installation. They should not be filled and used as unsupported, freestanding tubs. If you are considering a raised arrangement, the design must provide suitable support to the pond rather than relying on the plastic walls alone.
Planning pumps, filtration and maintenance
Choose equipment for the pond’s actual use. A planted wildlife pond has different requirements from a pond stocked with fish or one feeding a fountain. Allow room to position and retrieve the equipment, and route electrical cables safely before completing permanent edging. A pump, filter, plants and decorative materials are separate purchases.
Keep leaves and other accumulated debris under control, check equipment regularly and avoid disturbing planted areas unnecessarily during routine care. When selecting a treatment or calculating a dose, use the water volume actually present rather than assuming that every installed pond contains its full nominal capacity.
Guarantee and ordering
Oase lists a 15-year guarantee for this PE range, subject to the manufacturer’s terms and correct installation. Retain your purchase details and the supplied documentation. Select the required capacity before adding the pond to your basket; the model and part number in the table identify the shell you are ordering.

For a flexible alternative, see Gordon Low EPDM pond liner. The Finofil 5-litre square aquatic basket is another planting option; check that its dimensions suit the selected shelf and plant.
