Oase AquaActiv Safe&Care 500ml Pond Dechlorinator
Make new tap water safer before it reaches fish and filter bacteria
Safe&Care is a liquid water conditioner for pond filling and top-ups. It immediately binds chlorine and problematic heavy metals such as copper, lead and zinc, and includes protective colloids intended to support the sensitive mucus layer and gills of pond fish.
Use it whenever untreated mains water is added directly to the pond, after a substantial water change, or as directed after a completed medication course. The 500ml bottle is stated to treat up to 10,000 litres of new water at the normal dose.
What this treatment is designed to do
- Neutralises chlorine in freshly added tap water.
- Binds heavy metals including copper, lead and zinc.
- Includes protective colloids for fish skin, gills and mucus.
- Supports conditions in which biological filter bacteria can recover.
- Suitable for measured routine water changes and pond refilling.
How to use it responsibly
Dose for the volume of new tap water being added, not automatically for the entire pond. Pre-dilute in a watering can of pond water where the instructions recommend it and distribute around a high-flow area. If a hose is running continuously, make sure the measured conditioner covers the complete intended refill.
- Do not use at the same time as another remedy unless both manufacturers explicitly permit it.
- A conditioner does not remove ammonia or nitrite already produced in the pond.
- If the water supplier changes disinfectant practice, confirm the current label covers the source-water risk.
Calculate the real water volume after allowing for shelves, stone, pipework and filter chambers. If fish are distressed, oxygen is low or the water values are unsafe, stabilise the system before carrying out non-essential cosmetic treatment. Always retain the batch label and follow the current pack instructions, because formulation and regulatory directions can change.

Use it as part of the whole pond system
For automatic or frequent top-ups, compare our inline water purifiers. Check the pond with QuickSticks and browse all tap-water conditioners.
No bottled treatment replaces adequate filtration, oxygen, sensible feeding and routine removal of organic waste. Used for the correct problem, however, it can be a useful part of a measured maintenance plan rather than a guess-and-hope fix.
Frequently asked questions
Do I dose for the whole pond?
Normally you calculate the quantity from the volume of new tap water being added. Follow the pack directions for the exact situation.
Does it replace an inline dechlorinator?
It is convenient for measured water changes. An inline unit can be easier for frequent top-ups, provided flow and cartridge capacity are controlled.
Can I add medication at the same time?
Not unless the current instructions for both products say the combination is compatible; water conditioners can affect some remedies.
