Oase AquaActiv OptiPond Pond Water Stabiliser

Mineral support for stable KH, GH and pH after rain or water changes

OptiPond is a mineral pond stabiliser rather than a simple pH-up powder. It raises and supports carbonate hardness and total hardness, adds important mineral elements and helps protect a pond from the dangerous pH swings that can follow prolonged rain, very soft source water or a large refill.

Use it when testing shows low KH or GH, after heavy rainfall, when filling with soft rain or well water, or before another treatment whose label requires a minimum carbonate hardness. The current Oase coverage is 5,000 litres for 500ml and 50,000 litres for the 5-litre pack.

What this treatment is designed to do

  • Stabilises carbonate hardness, total hardness and pH.
  • Adds calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium and other mineral elements.
  • Helps bind problematic ammonium/ammonia in acute water-quality situations.
  • Supports predictable treatment performance where adequate KH is required.
  • Available for ordinary garden ponds and larger systems.

How to use it responsibly

Test KH, GH and pH first, calculate the actual pond volume and distribute the measured dose evenly. Re-test after the interval stated on the label rather than adding repeated doses from guesswork. Sudden pH change is stressful, so correct a severely unstable pond in a controlled way.

  • Do not use a stabiliser to hide an ongoing source of ammonia or nitrite.
  • Check the label before combining it with medication or an algaecide.
  • Large rain-fed or very soft-water ponds may require ongoing monitoring rather than one annual dose.

Calculate the real water volume after allowing for shelves, stone, pipework and filter chambers. If fish are distressed, oxygen is low or the water values are unsafe, stabilise the system before carrying out non-essential cosmetic treatment. Always retain the batch label and follow the current pack instructions, because formulation and regulatory directions can change.

Verified size and coverage information

500ml Treats up to 5,000 litres — SKU 75823
5 litres Treats up to 50,000 litres — SKU 50558
Typical effect at correct dose Approximately +1.5°dKH and +1.9°dH
Best paired with Routine KH, GH and pH testing

Use it as part of the whole pond system

Check the result with QuickSticks. When adding tap water, use a suitable product from our dechlorinator range. Browse further pond treatments only after the basic values are stable.

No bottled treatment replaces adequate filtration, oxygen, sensible feeding and routine removal of organic waste. Used for the correct problem, however, it can be a useful part of a measured maintenance plan rather than a guess-and-hope fix.

Frequently asked questions

Does OptiPond simply increase pH?

No. Its main role is to restore mineral buffering through KH and GH, which helps the pond resist sudden pH movement.

Why does current coverage differ from some older listings?

The current Oase specification states 500ml for up to 5,000 litres and 5 litres for up to 50,000 litres. We use that current manufacturer figure.

Should I use it before an algae treatment?

Only when testing shows the water needs stabilising and the treatment label requires suitable KH. Never add products together without checking both instructions.
