These Norfine round pan nets combine a choice of two head diameters with an extending aluminium handle. Both versions use 6mm hex-mesh netting and a handle adjustable from 1m to 2m. They are complete net-and-handle options for pond keepers choosing equipment for controlled fish handling, rather than replacement mesh or a separate pole.

Norfine describes these particular models as light-duty nets. That distinction matters when comparing them with larger koi nets and heavier wooden-handled equipment. Choose a net around the fish, the handling task and your working position; a longer pole does not give a net a higher lifting capacity.

The 39cm model includes a metal net protector around its frame. Norfine describes the 50cm version as having a removable pan head. These are model-specific details: check the selected option when comparing construction or ordering a replacement component. Choose a head with enough room to guide the fish comfortably.

Choosing the head diameter

Consider the space available to manoeuvre the head as well as the size of the fish. A pond with narrow margins, closely spaced planting or restricted access presents a different handling task from an open holding pond. Measure any opening the net must pass through, including gaps around covers or inspection areas.

The 50cm head is 11cm wider across than the 39cm version. That gives a larger working head, but also requires more clearance. Both options have the same stated handle range, so selecting the larger head does not provide a longer pole. Keep those two measurements separate when assessing which version will suit your pond.

Working with an extending handle

The 1m–2m measurement describes the handle. It is not a guaranteed reach from every pond edge, because your stance, the water level and the angle of use affect where the head can be positioned. Check access from a stable working place before choosing a net simply by its maximum extension.

Use the shortest extension that lets you carry out the task comfortably. Inspect the handle and its adjustment before use, and ensure the assembly is secure according to the instructions supplied. Do not lean over an unsafe edge to gain extra reach or use the pole to lever objects from the pond.

Pan nets and transfer equipment

A pan net helps guide and position fish during planned handling. Prepare the receiving bowl or container before starting so the process does not need to be interrupted while equipment is fetched. Work calmly and avoid repeatedly chasing fish around obstacles. Keep the fish supported in the water while guiding it towards the prepared receiving container.

For a transfer, consider the separate role of a Norfine koi sock net. A pan net and a sock are different tools, and their suitability depends on the fish and the intended procedure. Do not use these light-duty pan nets as an unsupported sling for lifting large koi clear of the water.

Understanding the 6mm mesh

The published 6mm hex-mesh specification helps distinguish these nets from fine leaf nets and specialist inspection nets. For fry or very small fish, check the mesh opening carefully and choose equipment suited to their size.

Choose the pan-net head size that suits your fish and the space available around the pond. These shallow pan nets differ from deeper landing nets; select the style that suits the handling task.

Inspection, cleaning and storage

Before each use, check the mesh for damage and the frame and handle connections for looseness. Remove snagged material carefully instead of pulling it against the netting. Rinse away pond debris after use and store the assembly where the head cannot be crushed or caught on sharp equipment.

If you keep equipment for more than one pond or quarantine system, plan how it will be cleaned between uses. A quick rinse removes visible debris but should not be assumed to disinfect a net.
