Blagdon Clearview Pond Cover Nets provide an unobtrusive cover over your pond to help intercept falling leaves and litter. Each pack contains a black fine pond cover net and fixing pegs. The net also helps discourage access by predators such as herons and cats, and helps keep jumping fish within the pond. Choose the size to suit your pond and the fixing area around it, rather than matching only the open water dimensions.

These are cover nets for fitting above the water. They are useful during autumn leaf fall, around ponds beneath trees and wherever an accessible open pond needs an additional barrier. The black mesh is designed to be discreet once installed, so you can still enjoy the appearance of the water and fish beneath it. It needs regular checking and clearing to remain effective.

The areas above are calculated from the stated net dimensions. They are not recommended maximum pond surface areas: some netting must extend beyond the water so it can be secured. A 4 × 3m net is the same rectangular size sometimes described as 3 × 4m, and the 10 × 6m model may be labelled 6 × 10m. Select the option by both measurements.

How to measure for your pond

Measure the longest and widest parts of the area you need to cover, including curved bays and projecting edges. Then consider where the fixing points will sit. A net stretched only between the water’s edges will leave no useful allowance for anchoring, and decorative stones, planting or a raised rim can use additional material. Choose enough coverage to reach secure fixing positions around the whole perimeter.

For an irregular pond, work from the outer rectangle that contains its shape. Do not choose by square metres alone: a long narrow pond and a compact wide pond can have the same surface area but need different net dimensions. Before opening and fitting the net, check the selected pack size against your measurements and decide how you will gain access for feeding and maintenance.

Fitting and checking the cover

Lay the net out carefully and position it over the pond without dragging it across sharp edging, stems or exposed fittings. Secure it evenly with the supplied pegs where the surrounding ground allows. On paving, decking or a raised pond, plan suitable fixing points for that surface; ground pegs alone may not provide the attachment you need. Avoid piercing the pond liner when arranging any fixings.

Keep the net clear of the water and check for loose sections around the margins. Revisit the tension after installation and after windy weather. A large accumulation of wet leaves can pull a cover down, so remove collected material before it becomes a heavy load. Keep access to pumps, filter equipment and feeding areas manageable, then refasten any section you open.

Leaf collection and routine pond care

A cover net is most useful when it catches material before it settles into the pond. Clear the leaves off regularly, lifting them away from the water rather than shaking them through the mesh. Smaller fragments can still enter, and material already on the pond floor will need separate attention. Check the net after storms and whenever nearby trees are shedding heavily.

Fish protection and wildlife considerations

Blagdon describes Clearview as helping protect fish from predators and preventing fish from jumping out. Effective coverage depends on secure fitting and regular inspection. Check the perimeter as well as the middle of the cover, and repair or replace damaged netting promptly. Treat a cover net as one part of your pond protection arrangements, rather than a guarantee that every animal will be excluded.

Inspect the net regularly for trapped wildlife, loose loops and fallen branches. This lightweight pond netting is not a load-bearing safety cover and must not be relied on to support a person or pet. Keep appropriate pond safety arrangements in place, especially where children can reach the water.

Cleaning, storage and choosing an alternative

When the cover is removed, clear away leaves and twigs before folding it. Rinse off remaining debris, let the net dry and store it with its pegs so the complete kit is ready for the next use. Inspect the mesh and attachment points before refitting, particularly if the net has been caught on sharp objects or left carrying heavy debris.
