Kockney Koi AquaMaster Waterproof Cable Connectors
Choose an inline connection or a Y branch for suitable outdoor equipment
The Kockney Koi AquaMaster cable connectors provide a detachable connection for suitable outdoor electrical cabling. Choose the inline model when you need to join two cable lengths in a single circuit, or the Y model when the installation calls for one input and two outputs. Both use a polycarbonate body and a twist-release plug-and-socket arrangement, with instructions supplied for fitting.
The models differ in more than their shape. The inline connector accepts cables within a stated 5–9mm size range and has a maximum 16A rating. The Y connector accepts 4–8mm cables and carries a maximum 24A / 450V rating. These limits describe the connector; they do not increase the capacity of the supply, switch, protective device or connected cable. Match the whole installation to the equipment being connected.

When to choose the inline connector
The inline version is useful where a suitable cable needs a detachable joining point. Around a pond, that can make it easier to remove equipment for servicing or seasonal storage without repeatedly disturbing the fixed supply arrangement. It may also suit appropriate outdoor lighting or other garden equipment, provided that the cable and electrical requirements fall within the connector’s specification.
Plan the joining point where it remains accessible. A connection hidden beneath permanent landscaping can be awkward to inspect or separate later, even when it was convenient during the initial installation. Leave enough cable for the intended servicing task without placing tension on the joint. The connector should not be used as a pulling handle when moving a pump or other appliance.
When to choose the Y connector
The Y version provides a branch connection from one input to two outputs. Kockney Koi describes it as suitable for connecting two appliances through one appropriate switch or socket arrangement. It is useful when that shared operation is what the installation requires. The Y connector itself does not provide separate switches or independent control for the two outgoing circuits.
Consider how the appliances will be used before choosing a branch. Equipment that needs separate maintenance isolation or different operating times may be better served by a suitable switched distribution arrangement. Our Yamitsu pond switch boxes provide another option to compare when planning control of several pond appliances.
Check the cable fit carefully
The stated cable-size range relates to the cable accepted by the connector’s sealing arrangement. Do not confuse the outside size of a cable with the conductor’s cross-sectional area marked in square millimetres. Both the physical cable fit and the electrical suitability need to be correct. If you are unsure how your cable relates to the manufacturer’s specification, have a competent electrician check it before fitting.
A cable that is too small or too large may not seal or clamp as intended. Do not try to compensate for an unsuitable cable by packing the opening with tape or modifying the connector. Check the condition of the cable sheath as well: the seal needs an appropriate, undamaged surface. Follow the supplied instructions for the permitted cable type and assembly procedure.
Understanding the IP68 rating
Kockney Koi specifies IP68 protection for both AquaMaster models. That protection depends on the connector being correctly assembled with suitable cables and intact sealing components. It is not a reason to ignore installation instructions or to assume that every connected appliance is suitable for the same conditions. The rating of the cable joint does not change the protection rating of the pump, lighting transformer or other equipment.
Follow the manufacturer’s limits for the location and use of the completed connection. Keep it accessible for inspection and protect it from avoidable mechanical damage. Do not assume an unlimited immersion depth or duration from the IP68 marking alone; use the conditions stated in the supplied instructions for the exact product.
Fitting and routine inspection
Isolate the electrical supply before fitting, disconnecting or inspecting the connector. Outdoor pond wiring should be planned and checked by a competent person, with suitable circuit protection for the application. The quick-release feature is for separating an isolated connection; it should not be treated as a switch for interrupting a live load.
After installation, check that the assembly is secure and that cables are supported without strain. Inspect the body, cable entries and surrounding cable condition as part of routine pond maintenance. If any part is cracked, damaged or no longer seals correctly, isolate the circuit and replace or repair it appropriately before reuse. Keep the instructions with the equipment so the connector can be reassembled correctly after servicing.
Planning a complete pond installation
Choose the connector alongside the equipment it will serve, including your pond pump and any shared controls. Record which appliance each cable supplies so that future cleaning and fault checks are straightforward. If you need help choosing the inline or Y version, let us know the equipment arrangement and the cable sizes; a clear photograph of the existing setup can help identify the appropriate product.
