Kockney Koi 6 Inch Dome Air Stone

Low-profile pond diffusers for a separately supplied air pump

Kockney Koi dome air stones introduce air below the pond surface through a broad, rounded diffuser. This 6 inch model provides a broad diffusion surface in a compact, domed shape. It is supplied as a single air stone; it needs a suitable air pump and airline to operate. The dome is the part that releases the bubbles, rather than a complete powered aeration kit.

The dome has an airline connection at the top and a wide base beneath its curved diffusion surface. This 6 inch model is manufacturer reference 002227. Kockney Koi specifies compatibility with 4mm and 8mm airline fittings. Check the hose you intend to use against the connection, particularly when replacing a dome alongside equipment that already has a suitable air supply.

Product details

Product 6 inch dome air stone
Manufacturer reference 002227
Airline compatibility 4mm and 8mm airline and fittings
Supplied quantity One air stone

The 6 inch size is the manufacturer’s product designation. It helps distinguish this dome from smaller ball stones, flat discs and long diffuser bars. Allow room around the chosen dome for water movement and for future removal. Do not wedge it tightly between rocks or place another item over the diffusion surface simply to hold it in position.

Match the air pump to the installation

An air stone needs enough air pressure to operate at its installed depth, as well as enough airflow for the diffuser and any other outlets sharing the pump. A larger-looking dome does not automatically make a small pump suitable for a deeper pond. Compare the pump’s performance at the intended depth rather than relying only on its maximum free-air output.

Plan the complete route from pump to diffuser. Long hose runs, narrow fittings and additional branches all affect the system. If you are adding a dome to an existing installation, consider whether the pump is already supplying other air stones or filter aeration. Splitting one supply into more outlets shares the available air; it does not increase the amount the pump can deliver.

Choosing airline that stays on the pond floor

For a submerged route, our standard sinking airline and Evolution Aqua heavy-duty sinking airline are useful options to compare. Select a bore that matches the diffuser connection and the rest of the system. Check the chosen hose size rather than assuming that every size in an airline range fits every air stone.

Black braided airline can also be used where the bore and connection are suitable, but it does not sink by itself. Where it needs to remain below the surface, plan appropriate support or weighting without crushing the tube. Keep any changes of direction gentle and leave enough accessible hose to lift the dome for maintenance without pulling on the connection.

Positioning the dome

Choose a stable position with the diffusion surface exposed to the water. Avoid setting the stone down into accumulated sludge, where dirt can cover the surface or be disturbed when the air starts. A clear, accessible location makes it easier to see whether the dome is working and to retrieve it for cleaning later.

Think about the fish and the surrounding pond layout as well as the equipment. Leave space for fish to move around the aeration area and keep the airline away from places where it can be trapped by a lid, pinched under a rock or damaged during cleaning. If the installation is close to a pump intake, skimmer or planted shelf, observe the circulation after starting it and adjust the arrangement if necessary.

Controlling multiple outlets

When one pump feeds several branches, each branch can behave differently because its hose length, diffuser resistance and water depth differ. An appropriate air distributor with individual controls can help adjust the supply. Do not close every outlet against a running pump; follow the pump manufacturer’s operating instructions and retain the air path the system needs.

For simple hose joints and changes of direction, see our Kockney Koi 8mm airline connectors. These connect the hose; they do not provide the same adjustment as a tap. Plan the required fittings before assembly so that a missing reducer or connector does not lead to a forced, poorly matched joint.

Maintenance and what is included

Inspect the dome and hose connection periodically, especially if the bubble pattern changes or air delivery falls. Check for a kinked hose, a loose connection or a dirty diffuser before assuming the pump has failed. Follow the relevant equipment instructions for cleaning and restart checks, and avoid striking the stone against hard surfaces when removing it.

This product includes one Kockney Koi 6 inch dome air stone. Air pump, airline, distributor and other fittings are purchased separately. If you need help matching the diffuser to your installation, tell us the pond depth, pump model, airline length and any other connected diffusers so we can assess the setup as a whole.
