KiGen RG-92 Special 6mm Koi Food

Premium koi nutrition with RG-92 hot-spring algae for growth, colour and condition

KiGen RG-92 Special is a premium 6 mm koi food that builds on the Kinsai recipe with the addition of RG-92 hot-spring algae extract. It is intended for keepers who want nutrition for growth, body development, skin quality and condition together with this additional ingredient. Choose floating or sinking pellets to suit your fish.

The foundation remains a carefully formulated regular diet, using LT71 fishmeal, marine ingredients, sorghum and a vitamin and mineral premix. RG-92 is incorporated into the food during manufacture, so it is supplied with the pellets as part of normal feeding.

What RG-92 adds to the recipe

RG-92 is a natural microalgae extract originating from hot springs in the Beppu region of Japan. KiGen includes it with the aim of supporting nutrient use, condition and skin quality. It is an extract rather than a live bacterial probiotic, and the ready-made food does not require the keeper to coat each portion with a separate RG-92 product.

For the buyer, the clearest difference from Kinsai is therefore the added RG-92 ingredient. Both foods follow a premium approach to growth and colour nutrition, while RG-92 Special offers the enriched version. The diet still needs to be fed appropriately: an added ingredient does not replace oxygen, filtration or careful pond management.

Why choose KiGen RG-92 Special?

  • Premium Kinsai-based nutrition with RG-92 incorporated into the food.
  • LT71 fishmeal and shrimp meal for the main animal protein ingredients.
  • Sorghum as the principal carbohydrate ingredient.
  • Developed with balanced growth, body shape and natural colour in mind.
  • 6 mm pellets in floating and sinking formats.
  • 1.2 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg bags for each format.

Protein, energy and natural colour

LT71 fishmeal is processed at low temperature to help preserve protein quality. The LT71 name identifies the fishmeal ingredient; it does not mean that the finished food contains 71% protein. Shrimp meal adds a further marine component, while sorghum supplies starch for energy and pellet structure.

The Kinsai-based formulation brings together protein, fats, a vitamin and mineral premix and colour-supporting ingredients. Its nutritional emphasis includes beni, the red markings, and shiroji, the white skin. The purpose is to support the koi’s natural development and appearance as part of consistent feeding, with the pond environment and the individual fish remaining central to the outcome.

RG-92 Special and the Marujyu name

KiGen’s January 2026 brochure presents the Kinsai-plus-RG-92 food as Marujyu Special. KiGen’s current range information also uses RG-92 Special for this enriched 6 mm food. This page retains the RG-92 Special name used in our product selection. Match the pellet behaviour and pack size when comparing the foods, rather than relying on the name alone.

Floating and sinking formula details

Floating pellets make the meal easier to observe; sinking pellets can suit koi that prefer to feed below the surface. The recipes also differ nutritionally: compare both protein and fat when choosing a format, and count any mixture of the two within one daily ration.

These figures and the composition below follow the label artwork published in KiGen’s own product galleries, checked on 7 September 2026. The labels name sorghum, whereas the January brochure uses millet. We use the label wording here and omit ingredient inclusion percentages that it does not declare. Check the bag supplied for the declaration and instructions applicable to that pack.

Choosing the pellet behaviour

Floating food is useful when you want to watch the fish take each portion at the surface. It helps you identify weaker feeding responses and remove leftovers. Sinking food gives koi that prefer lower feeding levels another option, provided you can still judge how much they are eating.

When using both formats, count them together as one daily ration. Giving a surface feed and then a sinking feed should not accidentally double the amount supplied. Start with small portions and watch the collection rather than assuming every fish has the same appetite.

Temperature-based feeding guidance

KiGen gives the following daily feeding guide for the RG-92-enriched Marujyu Special recipe. The quantities are percentages of fish body weight for the whole day and require adjustment to appetite, oxygen supply and water quality.

RG-92 Special / Marujyu Special feeding guide — KiGen January 2026 brochure
Water temperature Total food per day (% of fish body weight)
Below 8°C Do not feed
8–10°C 0.05–0.10%
10–12°C 0.10–0.15%
12–14°C 0.15–0.20%
14–16°C 0.20–0.25%
16–18°C 0.25–0.30%
18–20°C 0.30–0.45%
20–22°C 0.45–0.65%
22–24°C 0.65–0.90%
24–26°C 0.90–1.20%
26–28°C 0.70–0.90%
Above 28°C Less than 0.70%

As a calculation example, 0.3% of a combined 10 kg fish weight is 30 g per day. Split the total between small feeds and offer only what is cleared comfortably within a few minutes. The warmer-water values are conditional guidance, not feeding targets that every pond should reach.

Reduce the ration promptly if ammonia or nitrite rises, pellets are left behind or feeding response slows. The guide advises no feeding below 8°C and reduced feeding above 28°C. Follow the current bag instructions if they differ, and keep water quality ahead of attempts to increase growth.

Choosing a pack and storing the food

Choose 1.2 kg for a smaller collection or a first introduction to the food. The 5 kg and 10 kg packs suit established routines with regular consumption. Each bag size has separate floating and sinking options; availability is shown after making the selection above.

Introduce a new food progressively, keep the daily ration measured and watch waste as well as appetite. Close the pack after use and store it cool and dry, away from sunlight. A dry scoop helps keep moisture out, and the pack’s best-before and storage guidance should determine how long food is kept.
