iT3 L-30 PVC Pipe Cleaner – 500ml

iT3 L-30 prepares PVC pipe and fittings before a compatible solvent cement is applied. It cleans and degreases the joining surfaces, helping you carry out the preparation stage of a solvent-weld installation. This listing supplies one 500ml container. It is a pipe-joint preparation product, not a pond-water treatment, a general pond cleaner or an adhesive on its own.

We recommend planning the whole jointing system before starting work: the pipe material and dimensions, matching fittings, suitable cleaner and the correct cement. A carefully chosen pipe layout still needs properly prepared joints. L-30 belongs at that preparation stage, before the cement is applied, rather than being added afterwards to correct a poorly assembled or leaking connection.

The manufacturer offers L-30 in several container sizes and formats; this option is the 500ml pack. Check the label on the supplied container for its current instructions and handling information. L-30 PVC cleaner should also be distinguished from iT3’s separately named L-30 PVC-C cleaner. A similar product name is not a reason to disregard the material specification for your pipework.

How L-30 is used

The iT3 technical sheet directs the cleaner to be applied with a cloth to the surfaces that will be joined. Allow the treated surfaces to dry before applying the adhesive. The next stages, including cement application, assembly and curing, must follow the instructions for the selected cement and pipework system. Keep cleaner and adhesive in their own labelled containers so there is no confusion between the two products.

There is no universal number of minutes after cleaning that makes every joint ready for service. The cleaner must dry before cementing, and the cemented joint then needs its own curing period. Working conditions, pipe size and the chosen adhesive can affect the installation sequence. Do not interpret a surface that feels dry as proof that a newly cemented system can immediately be filled or pressurised.

Choose the pipe and fittings first

For a new filter installation, work from a simple drawing showing the pump, filter, UV, valves and service points. Check whether each connection uses imperial pressure pipe, metric pipe or another system. Similar names and near-matching dimensions can be misleading. Cleaner cannot make an incorrectly sized socket or an unsuitable material combination into a sound solvent-weld joint.

Our imperial pressure pipe and pressure pipe unions are useful starting points for a compatible rigid-pipe layout. Select the correct size within each range and check the material requirements of your equipment. A union can provide a removable service connection in the right location, whereas a normal solvent-weld socket forms a permanent joint.

Prepare a practical working area

Lay out the correct components, measuring tools and suitable cleaning cloths before opening the container. Cut and prepare the pipe ends as required by the pipe-system instructions, then confirm the route and orientation. Once cement is applied, there may be limited time to assemble a joint, so decisions about valve position or access should already have been made.

Keep the working area separate from the pond water and protect nearby surfaces from accidental spills. Read the current product label and safety information before use, including ventilation, personal protection and storage requirements. Keep the container closed when it is not being used. Do not use the cleaner on live pond equipment, fish, filter media or surfaces for which it has not been specified.

Allow room for future maintenance

Good pipework planning includes how components will be removed later. Leave space around union nuts, pump connections and UV housings, and make sure a valve handle can travel through its full movement. A tightly packed arrangement may look tidy initially but can make routine maintenance difficult. Support the pipework so its weight does not hang from equipment connections.

For isolation in a suitable pressure-pipe circuit, compare our Omega ball valves. Match the valve size and connection type to the pipe rather than relying on a photograph. L-30 is used only where the chosen PVC jointing instructions call for that preparation; threaded connections, rubber couplings and seals use their own assembly methods.

Checks before returning the system to service

After jointing, allow the full curing period specified for the adhesive and operating conditions. Follow the pipe and equipment manufacturers’ instructions for any required flushing, filling and leak checks. Inspect each joint and service connection as the system is brought back into operation. Keep electrical equipment isolated until the installation is ready for safe use under its own instructions.

If an old joint is damaged or repeatedly leaking, identify the cause before attempting a repair. Adding cleaner around the outside of an assembled joint is not a sealing method. Where a different type of connection is needed, our flexible rubber stop end caps are separate components for appropriate applications, not an alternative way to cement mismatched parts together.

Storage and waste

Store the product in its original closed container in accordance with the label. The manufacturer’s technical sheet specifies a cool, dry storage location. Keep the product away from children and retain the identifying label. Dispose of unused cleaner, contaminated cloths and packaging through an appropriate waste route; do not pour surplus cleaner into a pond, drain or watercourse.
