Replacement water-level sensing component for the Excellent drum-filter system

The Filtreau Excellent stainless steel float switch is a replacement sensing component for an Excellent drum-filter installation. The float responds to the water level within the filter and provides the signal used by the control system. Choose it when the float switch has been identified as the component that needs replacing, and check the existing filter model and connector arrangement before ordering.

The float is part of the automatic cleaning circuit. It works with the Excellent control box, drum motor and rinse pump. Each component has a different role, so a filter that fails to clean needs a diagnosis before parts are replaced.

How the float relates to drum cleaning

As debris collects on a drum screen, water passes through it less easily. Filtreau explains that the resulting condition is detected by the float switch, which triggers the flushing process. The drum rotates while the spray nozzles clean the screen. This lets the filter respond to changing conditions instead of relying only on a fixed cleaning schedule.

The Excellent manual illustrates separate pump-fed and gravity-fed float arrangements. Follow the diagram for the installation you have. A float position or adjustment suitable for one arrangement should not be copied to the other without checking the instructions.

Checking a suspected float fault

Record what happens when the filter needs to clean: whether the water level changes, whether an automatic rinse starts and whether a manual rinse operates normally. These observations can help the technician distinguish a sensing problem from a rinse-pump, controller or drum-drive fault.

Inspect and clean the filter in accordance with its manual. Debris, restricted water flow or an obstructed moving part can affect operation. Replacing the sensor will not clean a blocked screen or waste channel, so routine maintenance should be checked as part of the diagnosis. Fitting and commissioning

Disconnect the electrical supply before handling connections or working inside the filter. Keep the existing cover protection in service and follow the manufacturer’s fitting instructions. Arrange electrical fault-finding and installation through a suitably qualified person.

Before fitting, compare the old component’s connections and mounting arrangement with the replacement. After installation, check that the sensing assembly can move as intended and observe the filter through its normal operating and cleaning sequence. Confirm that water circulates correctly and that the protective functions remain operational before leaving the system unattended.
