A replacement air-release valve for the top of your EconoBead filter

This replacement bleed valve is supplied for the EconoBead filter lid. It is the small valve fitted at the top of the filter, used to release trapped air during the operating procedures described in the EconoBead instructions. Choose this part when the lid-mounted valve itself needs replacing.

The valve is separate from the pressure gauge, multiport valve and bottom sludge drain. Identifying its position helps you order the right spare: the pressure gauge is fitted to the multiport valve, while this air-release valve sits on the top lid. The clear lid and its large sealing ring are also separate components.

Check your existing lid and valve

Before ordering, compare the existing part with the product photograph and check that your filter is an EconoBead. The supplied valve has a black handwheel and body, a side outlet and a brass threaded connection. If the lid has been replaced or modified, check the valve fitted to that actual lid rather than relying on the name of the filter vessel alone.

If you need help identifying the part, send us photographs of the filter label, complete lid and existing valve. Include a close view of the connection. Avoid choosing a replacement solely because another valve has a similar handwheel; the connection and application must also match.

Fitting and returning the filter to service

Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for isolating and depressurising the filter before removing a valve or opening the lid. Keep the fitting area clean and examine the lid connection for damage. A replacement valve cannot repair a damaged lid or compensate for a mismatched thread.

The EconoBead manual shows the air-release valve as a separate fitting on the opening cap. Its maintenance instructions describe releasing air as the vessel refills and closing the valve when water emerges. Follow the full procedure for your installation, including the appropriate pump and multiport settings, rather than treating the bleed valve as a substitute for normal filter maintenance.

Is the bleed valve the part you need?

Before buying a replacement, identify where the problem is occurring. Moisture around the valve connection, water at the outlet and a leak around the large lid seal are different observations. A lid-seal problem will not necessarily be solved by replacing the bleed valve. Note where water first appears rather than assuming that every leak near the top of the vessel has the same cause.

A damaged handwheel or valve body is also different from a pressure reading that has changed. The bleed valve releases air; the gauge displays pressure. If you are investigating a pressure or circulation problem, check the filter’s troubleshooting guidance and the rest of the circuit before deciding which component needs attention. Replacing this small valve is not a way to increase the filter’s rated capacity.

Air release during servicing

The lid valve has a role when the vessel is emptied as well as when it is refilled. During the internal-inspection procedure, the EconoBead manual describes air entering through the open valve as water drains away. During refilling, displaced air leaves through the valve. Understanding those two different stages helps explain why the same fitting appears in several parts of the maintenance instructions.

Do not use this description as a draining sequence for every EconoBead model. The manufacturer’s instructions distinguish the smaller models from the EB100 and EB140, where particular care is needed to prevent beads escaping during draining. Follow the complete procedure for your filter, including the drain and multiport instructions, before opening the vessel for inspection.

Checks after replacement

After fitting and completing the manufacturer’s restart procedure, check the replacement valve and its connection for leakage while observing the filter. Make sure the handwheel remains accessible for the next service and that any discharged water can be managed without wetting nearby electrical equipment. If leakage remains, isolate the system again and investigate the connection rather than repeatedly tightening the valve into the lid.

Keep the filter model details with your maintenance records. This makes future spare-part identification easier, especially where an older filter has had its lid or other components replaced. A clear photograph taken before dismantling can help you compare the original arrangement with the replacement and explain any fitting question to our team.
