The Charles Austen DS1 Diffuser Station is a single air diffuser station designed to improve oxygen levels, water movement and overall water quality in ponds, koi ponds, lakes and aquaculture systems. It uses 1 x 10 inch rubber diaphragm diffuser to release fine bubbles from the pond bottom, helping oxygen move through the water column rather than only disturbing the surface.
Bottom aeration is useful because it supports beneficial aerobic bacteria, helps reduce stagnant areas and improves circulation in deeper or larger ponds. It can also help reduce the conditions that allow sludge, poor water quality and algae problems to build up. No electrical equipment goes into the water. The air pump stays outside the pond and sends clean air through weighted airline to the diffuser station.

As a practical guide, each 10 inch diffuser disc normally works best with around 40 to 50 litres per minute of air. This model has an airflow range of 30 to 60 litres per minute, with an ideal working range of around 40 to 50 litres per minute. Matching the diffuser to the correct air pump helps keep the airflow balanced, efficient and quieter.

Recommended airline and manifolds
For most pond installations we recommend using sinking airline so the pipe sits neatly on the pond bottom. The 4mm and 8mm Standard Sinking Airline is useful for smaller or shorter air runs, with the 8mm option normally preferred for these diffuser stations where suitable.
For larger ponds, longer air runs or higher output air pumps, the Evolution Aqua Heavy Duty Sinking Airline is the better choice. We would normally recommend 8mm or 10mm airline for Charles Austen diffuser stations, with 10mm being the stronger choice for longer runs and larger pumps.
For long, permanent underwater runs—particularly with higher-output Charles Austen air pumps—also consider our Super Heavy Duty Weighted Airline. Its 12.5mm internal bore helps reduce restriction compared with smaller airline, while the weighted 30m hose sinks naturally to the pond or lake bed. Because it is larger than standard 8mm or 10mm airline, allow for a suitable reducer or connector at the pump, manifold and diffuser station.
If one air pump is supplying more than one diffuser station or airline run, use a 2 way air manifold to split and balance the airflow. The 4 way air manifold can also be useful depending on the number of diffuser lines in the pond.

Installation and care
Place the diffuser station in the deeper or more stagnant area of the pond where air movement is most useful. Connect it to suitable weighted airline and keep the air pump in a dry, ventilated position above water level where possible. If the air pump has to sit below water level, fit a suitable non return valve to help protect the pump from water travelling back through the airline.
Check the diffuser and airline occasionally for blockages, kinks or uneven airflow. If airflow drops, inspect the air pump filter and service parts as well as the diffuser connection.
Aeration setup notes

Airline length, airline bore, diffuser depth, manifold taps and back pressure all affect the real airflow that reaches the pond or filter.
