These Burtons PRE replacement cartridges are available in 10-inch and 20-inch sizes. Select the exact length used by your purifier housing; the two sizes are not interchangeable.

Role in the purifier: The sediment pre-filter is the first stage. It catches dirt, sand and larger particles before they reach the carbon media.

A clean pre-filter protects the later stages and helps maintain flow. It does not replace the GAC or CTO treatment cartridges.

Our practical advice: write the installation date on the housing and test the treated water. Flow from the outlet does not prove that a cartridge still has useful treatment capacity.

Choosing the correct cartridge

• Select 10-inch or 20-inch to match the existing housing.
• Check the stage label before removing the old cartridge.
• Replace damaged seals and clean the housing before reassembly.
• Prime and flush the new cartridge for several minutes before pond use.
• Keep the purifier and spare cartridges protected from frost and contamination.

Replacement and maintenance

Isolate the mains supply, release pressure and open the correct housing with the proper spanner. Remove the old cartridge, clean the housing without household detergent, inspect the O-ring and fit the replacement in the same orientation. Reassemble carefully, restore the water slowly and check for leaks.

Burtons gives an approximate six-month interval for a complete cartridge set, but actual life varies with source-water quality, flow and total volume. A suitable chlorine test at the outlet is the most useful way to identify breakthrough.

Can I replace only one stage?

You can replace an individual cartridge, but the other stages may be approaching exhaustion at the same time. For predictable performance, many owners replace the full set together.

Why must a new cartridge be flushed?

Flushing primes the media and removes loose manufacturing dust before the outlet is directed to the pond.

Can I judge condition from the colour?

No. Carbon media can be exhausted without a visible change. Use the service interval and test the treated water.
