Choose a Blagdon pond net handle to suit the reach you need and the net head you use. This range brings together the 120cm fixed handle, 180cm fibreglass handle and 230cm telescopic handle. Each option is supplied as a handle only, allowing you to complete a matching net or replace the handle of an existing Blagdon set.

The right handle depends on more than the overall dimensions of your pond. Think about the height of the edge, where you can stand securely and the part of the water you need to reach. A comfortable, controlled working position is important when you are catching fish or collecting debris. Compare the three options below before ordering.

Compare the handle options

• 120cm fixed handle: Blagdon part 1005739. A shorter, fixed-length option for work within its comfortable reach.
• 180cm fibreglass handle: Blagdon part 1005746. A fixed-length fibre glass option offering greater length than the 120cm handle.
• 230cm telescopic handle: Blagdon part 1005753. An extending handle for a different reach and storage arrangement.

These are the named handle lengths published for the range. They are not the dimensions of a complete assembled net. Your grip position, the angle of the handle and the attached head all influence the reach available in practice. Net heads are sold separately.

120cm fixed net handle

The 120cm option is a straightforward choice when the areas you need to work in are reasonably close to a safe position at the pond edge. A shorter handle may be easier to manoeuvre where there are nearby shrubs, fences or ornaments. Check that you still have enough reach to complete the task without stretching out over the water.

As a fixed-length handle, it needs storage space for its full length. Keep that in mind if your pond equipment is stored in a small cupboard or narrow shed. It is a separate component for a matching head, rather than a complete net with mesh included.

180cm fibreglass net handle

The 180cm handle is the fibre glass option in this range. Its longer fixed format can be useful where the 120cm handle does not provide the reach you need. Consider the space behind and beside you as well as the distance across the water: a longer handle needs room to be moved and turned safely.

Inspect the shaft and connection before use, particularly if the handle has been knocked or stored among heavy equipment. Do not continue using damaged equipment for fish handling. Keep the handle supported during storage and avoid leaving it where someone could step on it or where a door might close against it.

230cm telescopic net handle

The telescopic option provides an extending format with a stated length of 230cm. It can suit pond layouts where a longer handle is needed for some tasks but an extending design is preferable to a long fixed pole. Adjust and secure the handle according to the instructions supplied with it before starting work.

Use the reach needed for the job rather than extending the handle unnecessarily. Longer reach changes how the assembled net feels and how much leverage a loaded head places on the pole. Check the adjustment and head connection regularly during use, and stop if either part slips or becomes loose.

Matching the handle to a net head

If you already own a head, check its identity and fitting before selecting a replacement handle. Do not assume a head from another brand will fit because its socket looks similar. Blagdon describes metal fixings that help keep the net head from twisting; the correct connection and secure assembly are essential parts of that arrangement.

Using the assembled net around your pond

Work from a stable position with a clear route around the pond. Keep the handle away from electrical cables, nearby people and overhead obstructions. Move the head steadily through the water and collect manageable quantities of debris rather than overloading it. A net handle should not be used as a lever for rocks or heavy planting baskets.

When working with fish, choose a head large enough for the fish and prepare suitable receiving equipment before you start. Avoid repeated chasing and use an appropriate transfer method. Handle length is not a lifting-capacity rating, so it should not be used to decide how much weight an assembled net can carry.
