Blagdon Fine Mesh Pond Cleaning Nets are designed for collecting debris, leaves and algae during routine pond maintenance. Each option combines a fine-mesh head with a metal handle, giving you a complete cleaning tool without needing to select a separate pole. Choose the head size and handle length that suit the area you need to work in.

This is the fine-mesh cleaning range. Although the head dimensions are similar to Blagdon’s coarse fish nets, the products have different manufacturer references and should not be confused when replacing an older net. Fine mesh is useful when the material you want to collect would pass through a more open mesh.

Compare the two sizes

These metric dimensions are taken from Blagdon’s current product specifications. The handle length is not the overall length of the assembled net or a promise of usable reach from every pond edge. Allow for where you hold the handle, the angle at which you work and the height of any surrounding wall.

When a fine cleaning net is useful

A fine-mesh net is a practical tool for targeted collection of visible material in the water. It can help with leaves and loose debris gathered near the edge, or suitable algae and other material that can be lifted out in manageable amounts. Removing accessible debris regularly can make routine maintenance easier than allowing it to accumulate.

Use the net for the material it can physically collect. It is not a replacement for a pond filter, and it should not be expected to remove dissolved substances or solve every cause of cloudy water. If the problem involves a substantial layer of settled sediment, a net may not be the right tool for the main cleaning task.

Choosing the smaller head and shorter handle

The 20 x 15cm head with 46cm handle is the compact option. Blagdon identifies it for small ponds, where a shorter tool can be convenient for work close to the edge. Check whether the head can move between marginal planting, ornaments and other equipment without getting caught or disturbing items that should stay in place.

A short handle is most useful where the work is within comfortable reach. If you would have to lean out over the water to use it, choose a more suitable handle length or a different working position. Keep access around the pond clear so you can remove collected material without carrying it over electrical leads or loose equipment.

Choosing the larger head and longer handle

The 25 x 18cm head provides a larger collection area, paired with the longer 91cm handle. It can be useful for reaching further from the edge, provided the surrounding space allows you to manoeuvre it. Check the width of planting gaps and the distance to the area you need to clean before selecting this option.

A larger head may collect more material in a pass, but avoid loading it with more debris than you can control comfortably. Lift smaller quantities and empty the net regularly. Fine mesh can offer more resistance as it moves through the water than a more open mesh, particularly when it is clogged with collected material.

Metal handle and controlled movement

Blagdon describes the metal handle as helping prevent twisting during use. Guide the head steadily rather than forcing it through plants or dragging it against sharp edges. Inspect the mesh and the head-to-handle connection before starting, especially if the net has been stored outdoors or has been knocked.
