AquaForte AquaMini 7.7kW Heat Pump
At a glance
- Model heat-output rating: 7.7 kW
- Power supply: Single phase
- Compressor control: Fixed speed
- Air discharge: Horizontal
The model rating is heat delivered to the water, not electricity consumption. Compare the test conditions and cooler-weather figures in the technical specifications below.
Seasonal pool heating: 18–40°C water settings and 10–43°C outdoor-air range. This model cannot maintain a 12°C or 15°C pond on its standard thermostat.
Compact seasonal water heating with simple local controls
The AquaForte AquaMini 7.7 is a compact, fixed-speed air source heat pump for seasonal swimming pool heating. Its published heating output is 7.7kW at 27°C air and 27°C water, and 4.8kW at 15°C air and 26°C water. Those figures describe different test conditions, so use the cooler-condition figure as well as the headline rating when comparing models.
The manufacturer’s specified outdoor operating range is 10–43°C. This is an essential consideration for koi keepers: the AquaMini should not be selected to maintain a covered pond through freezing winter weather. For that application, compare the temperature controls and cold-weather performance of the other air source heat pumps before ordering.

Choosing a seasonal heater
Begin with the months in which you want to heat the water and the target temperature. A compact seasonal heater may be appropriate for use during warmer conditions, but selecting it on volume alone can leave too little heating capacity when the weather changes. The water surface area, cover, exposure to wind and heat loss through the installation all influence the demand.
The manufacturer’s AquaMini controller range is 18–40°C, with a stated operating-air range of 10–43°C. This is a warm-season pool heater: its standard thermostat cannot hold a pond at 12°C or 15°C, and it is not an all-winter koi-pond heating option. Choose a pond heat pump with a suitable minimum setpoint and cold-weather capacity for those targets.
The 7.7 model requires 2.5–3.5m³/hour through its water circuit. This makes the circulating pump and pipe layout part of the selection, rather than accessories to choose after the heater arrives. If you are replacing another heater, compare its actual flow requirements and connections with these figures.
How the heat pump works
The heat pump collects heat from the surrounding outdoor air and transfers it into the water flowing through the unit. It needs both an unobstructed air path and sufficient water circulation. Positioning it in a confined space where cooled discharge air returns to the inlet can reduce its effectiveness, even when the water circuit is otherwise correctly arranged.
Fixed-speed operation means the compressor cycles under the controller rather than continuously varying its speed like an inverter model. The heating output is not the same as electrical consumption. When comparing performance or efficiency, use figures measured at matching air and water temperatures. A warm-weather rating cannot be used as a prediction of output or running cost throughout the season.
Connecting the water circuit
The published connection size is 32/38mm. Check the actual fittings supplied with the heater and the existing hoses before buying additional parts. Keep pipework supported and arranged so the connections are not carrying the weight of long unsupported hoses. Leave practical access for inspection, disconnection and draining.
Allow for the resistance of hoses, fittings and other equipment when checking flow. The maximum flow printed on a circulating pump is not necessarily the flow reaching the heater. If a bypass is required for your installation, have it arranged to provide the specified heater flow and suitable isolation for servicing. Do not assume that opening every valve fully automatically provides the correct balance.
Positioning and installation
Use a firm, stable outdoor base and follow the clearances in the installation manual. The rear discharge needs an open route; close walls, fencing and stored items must not obstruct it. Choose a position that also permits access to the controls and service areas. Avoid placing equipment where routine garden work or movement around the pool will damage hoses or restrict airflow.
Plan drainage for condensate produced during operation. Water around a heat pump does not always indicate a leaking pool connection, but leaks and unusual water loss should still be investigated. A suitable drainage route helps prevent puddles around the base and adjacent walking surfaces.
Follow the exact model’s electrical instructions and use an appropriately protected supply. Have the circuit checked if you are unsure it is suitable for outdoor equipment. Keep electrical connections protected and accessible for safe isolation. Installation requirements should be resolved before ordering, particularly where a new supply or alterations to existing pipework are needed.
Using and storing the AquaMini
Check that water circulation is established before operating the heater, and follow the manufacturer’s startup sequence. Monitor the water temperature with a suitable thermometer and allow time for the installation to respond. A heat pump is maintaining or gradually changing a body of water’s temperature; it should not be judged by an immediate temperature change at a single moment.
Keep air passages clear of leaves and debris, inspect the hoses and drainage route, and follow the manual’s maintenance guidance. When taking the heater out of service for cold weather, drain and winterise it as instructed. Simply switching off electricity does not remove water from inside the heat exchanger. Freezing water can damage an idle installation.
Compare the complete heating system
Choose between models using the required heating duty, water flow, operating range and installation needs together. Our pond heating guide explains the broader considerations, and the pond heating category provides alternative equipment for different applications. If you are uncertain whether a seasonal unit is suitable, establish the target temperature and months of use before choosing the capacity.

Rated heating output is measured at the stated air and water temperatures. In these figures, A means air temperature and W means water temperature, both in degrees Celsius. Heating output is not electrical consumption or a guarantee of winter performance. For a koi pond, compare the minimum water setpoint and cold-weather output as well as the headline kW rating.
Electrical input and running current
| Manufacturer model | SC972 |
|---|---|
| Rated electrical input | 1.12 kW |
| Rated running current | 4.85 A |
These are the manufacturer’s rated input figures, rather than heat output or a circuit-breaker recommendation. Actual electricity consumption varies with operating conditions and running time. Follow the supplied model instructions for the electrical connection; a running-current figure alone does not confirm that a UK plug is supplied.
