Air-Aqua Super UV Amalgam Submersible UV Kits
25W, 40W, 55W, 75W and 105W lamp assemblies supplied with a Super UV ballast
Air-Aqua Super UV kits combine a submersible amalgam lamp-and-quartz assembly with the separate electronic ballast needed to operate it. Choose the required wattage for your installation. These are the complete kits supplied by SKS, rather than the replacement lamp-and-quartz units sold for systems that already have a suitable ballast.
The lamp is intended for installation within suitable filtration equipment, where the surrounding design can contain the UV radiation. The electrical ballast has a different installation requirement: it must stay indoors, dry and ventilated. The word “submersible” describes the lamp assembly, not every component in the kit. Plan both locations before selecting a size.
Compare the lamp sizes
| Option and SKU | Lamp assembly dimensions | Catalogue koi-pond guidance |
|---|---|---|
| 25W (UV5694S) | 25mm diameter × 255mm long | Up to 15m³ / 15,000 litres |
| 40W (UV5694) | 25mm diameter × 440mm long | Up to 25m³ / 25,000 litres |
| 55W (UV5695) | 25mm diameter × 560mm long | Up to 30m³ / 30,000 litres |
| 75W (UV5696) | 25mm diameter × 730mm long | Up to 35m³ / 35,000 litres |
| 105W (UV5697) | 25mm diameter × 940mm long | Up to 60m³ / 60,000 litres |
The dimensions describe the lamp-and-quartz assembly, not the space required by the entire installation. Allow additional clearance for its connection, mounting arrangement and removal for cleaning or replacement. All five lamp assemblies have a manufacturer-listed five-metre cable. A longer lamp needs enough uninterrupted space inside the chosen filter compartment; a larger pond rating alone does not establish that it will physically fit.
Choosing output for your pond
Air-Aqua’s catalogue pond-volume figures are selection guidance, rather than a promise that every pond of that volume will respond identically. The way water passes the lamp, the condition of the quartz and the rest of the filtration system affect the result. Establish the actual pond volume and the intended installation position before deciding which option to order.
UV clarification works alongside filtration. It does not replace the mechanical stages that remove suspended material or the biological stages that process fish waste. Compare the layout of your pond filter with its manufacturer’s instructions, including any restrictions on fitting a submersible UV. Do not assume a filter chamber is UV-compatible simply because it is large enough to hold the lamp.
Amalgam lamp life and the hour display
Air-Aqua specifies a lamp service life of 13,000 hours for this Super UV technology. The ballast’s remaining-life counter helps you track operating time towards lamp replacement. Keep the installation date and the fitted wattage in your maintenance records so the next replacement can be matched to the equipment actually installed.
The counter is a maintenance aid, not a water-quality measurement. It cannot confirm how clean the quartz is, how effectively the filter is performing or whether the pond’s ammonia and nitrite levels are satisfactory. Continue normal pond checks and inspect the UV assembly as part of the filter’s maintenance schedule.
The Super UV ballast provides an operating indicator and a lamp-fault alarm. Follow its supplied manual when interpreting the display. The manufacturer distinguishes the lamp’s remaining-life counter from total ballast operating hours; resetting the lamp counter is part of fitting a replacement lamp, not a way to renew an ageing lamp’s output.
For the separate job of checking pond chemistry, the Colombo Pond Test Lab Professional complements routine equipment inspections. A UV lamp treats water passing its installation; it cannot provide a test result for the pond.
Keep the ballast dry and ventilated
The lamp assembly is rated IP68, while the separate Super UV ballast is rated IP20. Air-Aqua’s ballast manual specifies indoor use and at least 10cm clearance on each side for ventilation. Keep it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and remember that a shed or equipment cabinet can become hot even when the pond water is cool.
Do not place the ballast where splashes, condensation or flooding can reach it. Its manual also requires a protected electrical supply with earth-leakage protection rated at no more than 30mA. Have the installation checked by a competent electrician where necessary. Inspect the cable and plug before use, and follow the manual rather than cutting or modifying the supplied wiring to make it reach.
Installation and servicing access
Position the lamp so the UV radiation remains contained by a suitable installation. Never look at an operating exposed UV lamp or expose skin to its radiation. Disconnect the electrical supply before opening the installation or handling the lamp assembly. Follow the instructions supplied with both the UV and the filter when arranging access or any required interlocks.
Provide secure support for the glass assembly and room to remove it without forcing it against the filter walls. Plan the maintenance route as carefully as the initial fit: an assembly that can only be removed after dismantling major pipework makes routine servicing unnecessarily difficult. Choose mounting fittings suited to your filter and the available installation space.
Complete kit or replacement part?
Each kit includes a ballast and matching lamp-and-quartz assembly. Choose the wattage and lamp length that suit your installation using the dimensions above. If you already have a working ballast, check whether you need a replacement lamp assembly or a complete kit.
For servicing, compare the original model reference and connection before choosing from our filter spares. Similar wattages across different brands do not establish interchangeability. Keep the manufacturer’s instructions with the equipment so lamp replacement, display settings and electrical installation requirements remain available to whoever maintains the pond.
