Yamitsu Tri-Port UV Units for Kockney Koi Mega Filters
Choose the 11W Mega, 15W Mega Large or 25W Mega XL filter-fit version
These Yamitsu Algae Master UV units are made for fitting to the corresponding Kockney Koi Mega filter. Their Tri-Port body arrangement is designed around the filter connection, making the correct body style just as important as the wattage when choosing a replacement or an additional UV unit.
Select the 11W option for the Mega filter, the 15W option for the Mega Large or the 25W option for the Mega XL. This listing is for the UV unit; the filter box, biological media and pond pump are separate equipment. Check the filter you own before choosing, particularly if you are replacing an older unit or have inherited a pond with equipment whose model is not immediately clear.
Which unit fits which filter?
| Option | Filter application |
|---|---|
| 11W Mega filter-fit UV | Kockney Koi Mega filter |
| 15W Mega Large filter-fit UV | Kockney Koi Mega Large filter |
| 25W Mega XL filter-fit UV | Kockney Koi Mega XL filter |
Kockney Koi also identifies its Pod fibreglass unit as an application for the 11W Tri-Port Mega version, and its Platinum 8000 fibreglass unit for the 15W Tri-Port Filter Fit version. If ordering for one of those filters, compare the existing UV arrangement and filter connections carefully. A filter from a different range should not be treated as compatible simply because it uses an 11W or 15W lamp.
The manufacturer identifies the 25W Filter Fit model for Platinum 14,000 and 20,000 fibreglass filters as well as the discontinued Mega XL filter. Discontinuation of the filter does not by itself identify the condition or availability of a replacement UV, so check the selected option’s current stock status. Match an older installation by both its filter model and connection arrangement.
Filter-fit and standard Algae Master units
The Algae Master name covers more than one body configuration. These filter-fit models are distinct from our standard Yamitsu Algae Master 11W clarifier and standard 15W clarifier. Those links are useful when comparing layouts; they are not a claim that the bodies can be exchanged without checking the installation.
For an existing Mega installation, start with the filter model and the shape and position of the UV connections. A photograph of the old UV in place, together with its label and the filter, is particularly helpful if you need assistance identifying the right option. Avoid removing useful identifying labels or disposing of the original unit before its replacement has been matched.
Construction and water treatment
Yamitsu describes the Algae Master range as using UV-stabilised materials, with internal turbulators to assist its operation. The Tri-Port design provides the connection arrangement for the listed filter applications. The UV works as part of the pond’s circulation and filtration system; it does not replace the filter media or the regular cleaning that the filter requires.
When assessing a pond problem, distinguish green water from accumulated debris or a filter that needs maintenance. Choosing a UV unit should form part of a check of the complete system, including the pump and the route through the filter. Do not assume that fitting a more powerful lamp or a different UV body will compensate for an unsuitable or obstructed water path.
Choosing by the complete installation
Manufacturer maximum pond-volume figures are selection guidance, rather than a promise of results in every pond. The connected filter and pump also have their own limits. Select equipment around the actual pond, fish stocking, sunlight exposure and circulation arrangement, and keep within the requirements of every component in the circuit.
Replacing a filter-fit UV is also an opportunity to check that the existing arrangement is correctly identified. A higher wattage is not automatically a direct upgrade: the body, connection positions and the filter application still have to match. Contact That Pond Guy with the filter model and photographs if you are unsure which option is appropriate.
Planning access and installation
Allow enough access to reach the unit for future inspection and servicing. Consider the cable route as well as the position of the water connections, and follow the instructions supplied with the exact unit for electrical installation and operation. Do not make permanent alterations to a filter or its pipework solely from the appearance of an online photograph.
Disconnect electrical equipment before dismantling the installation and use the manufacturer’s instructions when opening or servicing a UV unit. Never operate an exposed UV lamp. Check the completed water connections for leakage and restore the system according to the installation instructions, rather than using the lamp as a way to test a partially assembled unit.
Keeping the correct replacement details
Keep a note of the UV model and wattage with your pond-maintenance records. When a lamp, sleeve or seal eventually needs replacing, identify that part against the actual unit fitted. The same wattage on two products is not enough to confirm that all their service parts match.
Retaining a photograph of the product label and the installed connection layout makes subsequent servicing easier, especially where the filter and UV have been purchased at different times. If you need help, include both sets of details so that the replacement can be matched to your installation.
