Thermotec Nova 36T 36kW Three Phase Pond and Pool Heat Pump
Higher output heating with single phase and three phase options
The Nova 36T is the three-phase 36kW model. It is intended for installations with an appropriate three-phase electricity supply and the water circulation needed by a large heat pump. It is a separate electrical version from the single-phase Nova 36; make the choice around the actual supply available at the installation.
The model choice needs to suit both the heating duty and the available electrical supply. Nova 36 uses a single phase supply, while Nova 36T and Nova 41T require three phase. These are substantial units that should form part of a properly designed water and electrical installation, rather than being selected only from the advertised maximum pool volume.

All three models use 50mm water connections and a 50Hz supply of the phase and voltage shown. The installation needs room for airflow, pipework, drainage and maintenance. The unit’s weight and the available access route should be considered before delivery and positioning.
Rated electrical input is separate from heating output. The performance input and COP ranges above belong to their stated air and water test conditions; they are not fixed everyday consumption or annual efficiency figures. Noise is measured at one metre, so compare it with other models at the same distance.
Heating performance in changing weather
The Nova’s capacity changes with the temperature of the air and water. The table separates the warmer 27°C air rating from the 15°C air result so that the comparison is useful for real installations. The 36kW model name should not be taken to mean that 36kW of heat remains available at every outdoor temperature.
The manual lists a heating ambient range of −15°C to 43°C and a heating water setting range of 9–40°C. Operation at the lower end of the ambient range still requires correct sizing and a suitable system design. The pool’s surface area, cover, exposure, target temperature and operating season determine the heat that has to be replaced.
Inverter technology and efficiency
Full inverter operation allows the compressor and fan to adjust to demand. Once the water approaches its target, the heater can reduce its output instead of continuing at maximum capacity. This makes part load operation an important part of how the system works, although the actual savings depend on the installation and weather.
COP expresses the relationship between heat delivered and electricity used at a stated test condition. The highest figure in a specification table should not be used as a guaranteed year round efficiency. For a fair comparison, use the same air and water temperatures and distinguish between part load and full load results. A suitable pool cover and well planned pipe insulation help reduce demand before the heat pump has to meet it.
Plan for the required circulation
The Nova needs a substantial water flow: 15.4m³/hour for the two 36 models and 17.7m³/hour for the 41T. The circulation pump must provide that flow through the installed filter, pipework, valves and heat exchanger. A pump’s maximum figure measured without resistance is not enough to confirm suitability.
Use a properly designed bypass and isolation arrangement so the flow can be adjusted and the heater serviced or drained. The manual requires clean water and regular filter maintenance. Pipework must be independently supported so that its weight does not stress the water connections. Keep the pipe route practical and avoid unnecessary restrictions, while allowing access to unions and drain points.
Vertical discharge and installation space
The Nova discharges air upwards through the fan on top of the cabinet. That arrangement can suit sites where a forward air outlet would be inconvenient, but it still requires clear space above and around the unit. Do not place a roof, close fitting cover or other obstruction in the discharge path while it is running. The manual’s clearance diagram should be part of the installation plan.
A level support capable of carrying the selected model is essential. Provide condensate drainage and leave service access around the cabinet. Think about maintenance access as well as the route used to bring the unit into position; a heater that can be delivered into a space may still need more room for safe operation and servicing.
The installation diagram requires at least 1,000mm of clear space around all four sides and 3,000mm above the top outlet. Check section 3.3.4 of the linked manual before selecting the installation position. These clearances are additional to the cabinet dimensions; a covered alcove that physically fits the unit may still be unsuitable for its airflow.
Electrical supply and controls
The Nova 36 is not interchangeable with the three phase 36T simply because the heating capacities are similar. An electrician should confirm the site supply, circuit protection and cable sizing for the exact version. Three phase units also require correct phase connection. The manual’s electrical instructions must be followed rather than inferred from the model’s heating output.
The LCD controller and Wi-Fi function offer ways to monitor and adjust the heater. Commission the system with the correct water flow and controller settings, and keep the supplied instructions available for future maintenance. Cooling operation is also provided, with a different operating range from heating; use the relevant specification when planning that duty.
Winter care and choosing the right application
If the unit is left idle during freezing weather, drain it according to the manual. Water trapped inside a heat exchanger can freeze even when the equipment has a low ambient operating rating. During normal use, keep the airflow clear and maintain the filter and drainage system. Refrigerant work and electrical servicing require appropriately qualified personnel.
Compare the Nova with our other swimming pool heating equipment. For koi pond projects, compare the Nova with the other models in our pond heat pump range and have the required heating duty checked before specifying a larger Nova installation.
Supplier pond volume guidance
Thermotec lists 19,900 gallons as the maximum pond guide for this model. This figure does not specify a guaranteed 12°C winter duty. Assess the pond surface area, winter covers, insulation, location and desired temperature before finalising the heater size.
Installation manual
Read the Thermotec Nova installation manual before planning the water circuit, electrical connection and outdoor clearances. Keep the instructions supplied with your exact unit for installation, controller settings and maintenance.
Warranty and support
UK Thermotec Nova warranty cover includes three years for component parts and labour, with five years for the compressor and heat exchanger. Installation errors and frost damage are excluded. Retain your purchase and installation records; contact us for help arranging support.
Compare other Thermotec Nova models
Check the heating output, required water flow and electrical supply on each individual model before choosing. A larger nominal rating does not replace an assessment of your pond’s winter heat loss.
