Pro Line Aqua Silkworm Pupae Koi Treats

Dried silkworm pupae in 750g and 1.5kg tubs, for supplementary warm-water feeding

Pro Line Aqua Silkworm Pupae are a supplementary koi food made from 100% dried silkworm pupae. The supplier declares 48% protein and 28% oils and fats and recommends them as a treat or supplement to the normal diet. They are a different ingredient from Black Soldier Fly larvae and should be fed using their own preparation and temperature guidance.

Choose 750g in a 2.5-litre tub or 1.5kg in a 5-litre tub. The product selector shows the net weight of food. The litre figure describes the container volume, so the 5-litre option contains 1.5kg of pupae rather than 5kg. Both packs contain the same food; the choice changes the quantity you buy.

Pack sizes at a glance

Net food weight Stated tub volume Product reference
750g 2.5 litres KF219
1.5kg 5 litres KF220

The 1.5kg pack contains twice the net weight of the 750g pack. Compare the displayed prices by weight, then consider how often your fish receive this treat. A smaller tub can be a practical starting point for occasional feeding, while a larger one suits a routine that will use the contents within the supplied storage and best-before guidance.

Pupae are natural pieces rather than manufactured pellets. The pack sizes do not correspond to different pellet diameters. Check that the prepared pieces are suitable for the fish you intend to feed, particularly where smaller koi share a pond with much larger fish.

Temperature and preparation

The supplier recommends not feeding these pupae below 15°C, equivalent to 59°F, because of their high protein and fat content. Check the pond water temperature rather than relying on the air temperature or the time of year. Reaching 15°C is not an instruction to feed an unwilling fish; appetite and pond conditions still need to support feeding.

Soak the pupae in warm water for half an hour before offering them, following the supplier’s preparation guidance. Prepare a small portion for the intended meal using a clean container. Keep the main tub dry and closed while the portion is soaking, rather than introducing water into the stored food.

The soaking step and temperature threshold belong to this Silkworm Pupae product. They should not be assumed to apply to every other natural treat, mixture or pellet food. If you use several products, keep their instructions with the corresponding containers so that preparation remains consistent.

Using pupae alongside the normal diet

The supplier describes a daily treat or a supplement of around 30% of the total food volume. This is a supplementary-feeding example, not an extra 30% to add after an unchanged full ration. It is also expressed by volume, so it should not be silently converted into the same percentage by weight when comparing different foods.

Start with a modest prepared portion and observe the response. The usual food remains part of the feeding plan: do not replace the whole routine with pupae simply because the fish take them enthusiastically. Remove uneaten pieces and reduce the following portion if food remains. If appetite changes unexpectedly, review fish behaviour and pond conditions before offering more treats.

Composition and nutritional declaration

The supplier gives the composition as 100% dried silkworm pupae and states that the product has no added preservatives or additives. Its declared analysis is:

Crude protein 48%
Crude oils and fats 28%
Crude fibre 2%
Crude ash 4%

Use these figures for this product only. Our Pro Line Aqua Black Soldier Fly listing has a different ingredient and declaration. The analysis of either individual treat is not the analysis of Pro Line Aqua Koi Treats Mix.

Planning a practical feeding routine

If more than one person feeds the pond, agree when the pupae will be offered and how that portion fits the day’s food. Preparing a measured portion in advance helps make the treat part of the routine rather than an unrecorded extra. Watch quieter fish as well as the most active feeders to judge whether the offering reaches the intended fish.

For the pellet part of the routine, compare Pro Line Aqua Growth and Top Color. Follow the individual food’s directions and choose it for your pond conditions. A change to another food does not remove the Silkworm Pupae preparation requirements.

Storage between meals

Keep the tub tightly closed in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Use clean, dry utensils to take out the portion for soaking. Follow the storage and best-before instructions on the supplied tub and retain the label with the food, especially if some is transferred to another container. Buying a pack that suits your actual rate of use makes those freshness checks easier.
