Kockney Koi KK32 Female Threaded Solvent-Weld Adaptor

The Kockney Koi KK32 connects a compatible 1½ inch male BSP threaded component to solvent-weld pond pipework. Its female thread screws over the matching male connection, while the other end offers two solvent-weld surfaces: a socket for compatible 1½ inch pipe and an outside surface that fits a compatible 2 inch solvent-weld socket.

This makes the fitting useful where the pump, UV clarifier or other equipment has a threaded connection but the rest of the installation uses rigid pipe. The two solvent-weld sizes are alternative connection arrangements on the same adaptor. They do not provide two separate outlets or allow two pipe runs to be connected at once.

Choosing the correct pipe connection

Start with the pipe system, then check the size. Inch labels on pond fittings can describe nominal pipe sizes, hose sizes or a thread standard. They should not be treated as exact measurements of every surface. In particular, a 1½ inch BSP thread is a different connection from a 1½ inch solvent-weld socket, even though the same nominal figure appears in both descriptions.

The KK32 belongs to Kockney Koi’s solvent-weld range. Compare it with the correct option in our black waste solvent-weld pipe range and check the mating surfaces before using cement. Imperial pressure pipe, metric pressure pipe and waste pipe are not automatically interchangeable. A joint that needs forcing or has excessive clearance needs its compatibility checked before assembly.

When this adaptor is useful

Use it when a verified 1½ inch male BSP outlet or inlet needs to connect to an appropriate rigid pipe circuit. Check the equipment manual as well as the thread label: some equipment requires a particular union, seal or fitting supplied by its manufacturer. A matching thread alone does not override those requirements.

If the existing connection is female, this female-threaded adaptor will not screw directly into it. If the circuit continues in flexible hose, compare a suitable hosetail instead. Choosing the fitting from the actual connection at each end avoids unnecessary extra adaptors, tight bends and joints that become difficult to reach once the equipment is installed.

Leave room for servicing

Before gluing the pipe, consider how you will remove the equipment for cleaning, winter storage or replacement. A solvent-weld joint is permanent. Screwing the adaptor onto a unit does not necessarily leave a removable connection once a long rigid pipe has been bonded into the other end.

Where appropriate, add a correctly matched black waste split connector in an accessible position. This lets the pipe separate at the union without trying to rotate the whole pipe run. Keep enough working space to undo the union and remove the equipment without straining its inlet or outlet.

Making the threaded connection

Inspect both threads for damage or trapped dirt and start the connection carefully by hand. Confirm the sealing arrangement specified for the connected equipment. Some joints seal on a washer or O-ring at the face; others use an appropriate thread seal. These are different sealing methods, and adding tape to a face-sealed connection is not a substitute for a sound, correctly positioned seal.

Avoid excessive force on the plastic fitting. Tightening harder will not correct crossed threads, a mismatched connection or a damaged seal. Support adjoining pipework so that it does not pull the adaptor sideways. The equipment should not carry the weight of an unsupported pipe run.

Preparing the solvent-weld joint

Measure the route, check the orientation and prepare the adjoining pipe before applying cement. Cut squarely, remove loose burrs and keep the mating surfaces clean. Use a solvent cement approved for the materials being joined, following its instructions for preparation, insertion and curing. Do not use cement to fill a gap caused by the wrong pipe size.

Keep adhesive away from the BSP thread and any sealing surface that must remain clean. Allow the specified curing time before introducing water. Temperature, conditions and the chosen cement affect this waiting period, so a universal curing time is not given for the adaptor itself.

Complete the pipework thoughtfully

For a straight join between matching pipes, our black waste straight connectors may be the appropriate fitting. Where you need to isolate a section for maintenance, compare the compatible Kockney Koi black waste ball valves. The KK32 provides a connection only; it cannot shut off or regulate water flow.

Once the installation is ready and all curing instructions have been followed, check the completed circuit for leaks before leaving it unattended. Retain the fitting reference and a note of the pipe system used. That small record makes future repairs much easier than trying to identify an old fitting by its approximate appearance.
