Burtons ceramic air stones break the air from a pond air pump into a broad curtain of fine bubbles. This improves gas exchange at the surface, adds useful circulation and helps deliver oxygen to koi ponds, filter chambers, quarantine systems and holding vats.

Choose the 300mm tube where a long narrow bubble pattern suits a chamber or pond edge. Choose the 8-inch round disc when a wider circular plume is more useful. Both are made from refined ceramic material and are intended for submerged aeration.

Our practical advice: an air stone is only as good as the pump and airline feeding it. Long narrow airline, deep water and a dirty diffuser all increase back pressure, so check the complete run rather than choosing by stone size alone.

Match the air pump to depth and back pressure

The litres-per-minute figure printed on an air pump is normally measured under test conditions. Output falls as water depth and restriction increase. Use the pump performance data, keep airline runs sensible and avoid unnecessary small fittings. A manifold with valves allows several outlets to be balanced, but closing too many valves can create harmful back pressure.

Cleaning and replacement

Mineral deposits and biofilm gradually block the ceramic surface. If the bubble pattern becomes uneven, isolate the air pump, remove the stone and clean it using a method suitable for pond equipment. Replace cracked stones or units that remain restricted after cleaning.

Can I put the stone on the pond bottom?

Yes, if the pump can overcome the water depth. In deep ponds, placing it slightly higher can reduce back pressure while still creating circulation.

Why are the bubbles uneven?

New ceramic can take time to wet fully. Persistent unevenness may indicate deposits, a kinked airline or insufficient pump pressure.

Can one pump run several stones?

Yes, provided it supplies enough air at the working depth. Use a suitable manifold and balance the outlets.

Should the air pump be above water level?

That is the safest arrangement. If it must sit lower, fit appropriate non-return protection and follow the pump manufacturer instructions.

Can I use ordinary clear tube?

Use airline with the correct internal diameter and pressure rating. Very soft or narrow tube can kink and restrict output.
