Aquascape Professional Pondless Waterfall Kit with 5 m Stream is a coordinated system for building medium and larger gardens where a genuine stream, several small cascades and a substantial area of moving water can become part of the landscape. Instead of ending in an open pond, water disappears through decorative stone into a lined underground basin, is stored inside structural AquaBlox modules and is pumped back to the head of the waterfall.

The kit matches the reservoir liner, Pondless vault, AquaBlox storage, spillway, EcoWave pump, check valve, pipework and water-care equipment for the stated format. That removes much of the component guesswork, but the finished result still depends on accurate levels, enough reservoir capacity, suitable rock selection and a serviceable pump position.

What is not included: rocks, decorative gravel, excavation, spoil removal and the outdoor electrical supply. These have a major effect on both the appearance and the installed cost, so they should be planned before work begins.

Why choose a pondless waterfall?

A pondless waterfall gives the sight and sound of moving water without a permanently exposed pond at the bottom. When the pump is switched off, the water in the stream drains back into the concealed reservoir. This can suit front gardens, courtyards, family spaces and commercial landscapes where an open body of water is not wanted.

There is still water below the stone surface, so the basin must be built correctly and treated as water-feature infrastructure rather than a shallow decorative tray. The reservoir needs enough live capacity for the water held in the stream while it is running, plus safe operating volume above the pump intake. The 5 m format gives room for pools, turns and repeated level changes. The full pipe route, rise and stream volume should be planned together so the reservoir has comfortable operating capacity when the pump is running and when the stream drains back.

How the Pondless system works

1. The underground basin stores the water. Liner forms a watertight reservoir beneath the visible stone surface.
2. AquaBlox create structural storage space. Their open void stores far more water than a basin filled entirely with loose stone while supporting the surface finish above.
3. The Pondless vault protects the pump. The vault gives the pump a defined chamber and allows it to be reached later without dismantling the complete reservoir.
4. The EcoWave pump feeds the waterfall. Water travels through the supplied flexible PVC pipe to the spillway at the top of the feature.
5. The spillway spreads the return. A level and well-supported spillway helps create a clean starting sheet of water before the stream is shaped by rock and foam.
6. Water returns through the rockwork. It flows down the constructed course, disappears into the basin and recirculates continuously.

The vault forms an accessible pump chamber within the underground reservoir. Its lid must remain reachable after the surface is finished so the pump, check valve and surrounding storage can be inspected and cleaned. No separate Pondless® Waterfall Vault Extension is required for this kit.

5 Small AquaBlox® modules

The AquaBlox modules maximise useful water storage without filling the reservoir entirely with stone. They also form a strong substructure beneath the decorative cover. The exact number and size are important: the four kits are not merely different lengths of liner.

56 cm Waterfall Spillway

The spillway sits at the head of the feature and diffuses the pumped flow across the first fall. It should be installed level, firmly supported and positioned so its body can be disguised without trapping water behind the liner or blocking future access.

EcoWave® 15000 pond pump with Dual Union Check Valve 2.0

The energy-efficient EcoWave pump is matched to the intended waterfall scale and supplied pipework. The dual-union check valve helps stop the raised pipework draining back through the pump when the system is switched off and makes the connection easier to isolate for servicing.

Basin liner, stream liner and protective underlay

The basin liner forms the hidden reservoir. A separate 3 m × 6 m liner is supplied for the visible watercourse. The listed underlay protects the liner from the prepared ground, but sharp stones and construction debris must still be removed before installation.

2″ flexible PVC pipe, 25 ft (7.6 m) and installation materials

Flexible PVC pipe connects the pump vault to the spillway. The installation kit also supplies the core fittings and sealing products used around the system, including PVC cement, black silicone and black pond-and-waterfall foam. The foam directs water over the visible faces of rock instead of allowing it to disappear underneath; it should not be relied upon to support unstable stone.

Dosing System SL with Prevent for Fountains and Waterfalls

The automatic dosing system provides small, regular additions of the compatible waterfall treatment. This helps maintain a feature that lacks the plant and open-water ecology of a pond. Dosing supports routine care but does not replace removing leaves from the reservoir, checking the pump or topping up water lost through evaporation and splash.

Planning the reservoir and stream

Calculate where the water goes when the pump starts

The stream and falls hold water while the feature runs. That water comes from the reservoir, so the stored level falls during operation and rises again when the pump stops. Allowing too little live volume can expose the pump or cause the basin to overflow on shutdown. Wider pools, deep pockets and long streams all increase the amount held above ground.

Survey the total rise—not just the stream length

Flow reduces as vertical lift and pipe resistance increase. Confirm the height from the running reservoir level to the spillway, the real pipe route and the number of bends before fixing the top of the feature. An ambitious high waterfall may require a different hydraulic design even when its horizontal length fits the liner.

Build access into the finished surface

The vault lid should be disguised but removable. Keep the pump, unions and check valve reachable without lifting the heaviest boulders. A clean-out route for sediment and leaves is equally valuable; buried equipment that cannot be reached turns routine maintenance into reconstruction.

Use rock to shape water, not simply to cover liner

Set structural rocks securely before filling gaps with smaller stone. Vary stream width, use changes of level deliberately and keep the liner edges above the maximum running water level. Black waterfall foam behind key stones directs water across their faces, creating better sound and reducing hidden bypass underneath.

Plan power, top-up and splash loss

The pump requires a suitable RCD-protected outdoor supply and weather-appropriate connection. Fixed outdoor electrical work should be handled by a competent electrician. All waterfalls lose water through evaporation and splash; sunny, windy or highly aerated designs may need frequent top-up or a properly designed automatic top-up.

The modules create a strong, high-void storage structure beneath the decorative surface. This stores more usable water than filling the basin entirely with loose rock and keeps the pump vault integrated into a serviceable reservoir.

Can the pump be reached after installation?

Yes, if the vault lid is kept accessible. The surface can be disguised with removable stone or a cover, but it should not be permanently buried beneath heavy rockwork.

What is the check valve for?

It helps stop water in the raised pipework flowing backwards through the pump when switched off. Its union connections also make isolation and servicing easier.

What does waterfall foam do?

It fills hidden gaps behind selected rocks so water is directed over their visible surfaces. It improves the appearance and sound of the cascade but is not a replacement for stable structural rock placement.

Do I need an electrician?

The pump requires a safe RCD-protected outdoor supply and suitable weatherproof connection. Fixed outdoor electrical work should be designed and installed by a competent electrician.

Can I add lighting?

Yes. Underwater or waterfall lights can be installed during the build, when cables and access can be planned neatly. Check transformer capacity, cable routes and maintenance access before covering the reservoir and stream edges.

Is this safer than an open pond?

It removes the permanent exposed water body, which can be useful where an open pond is unwanted. It is not risk-free: wet rocks can be slippery, the reservoir contains water and electrical and structural work still require proper installation.

What happens when the pump is switched off?

Water in the stream and pipework drains back towards the reservoir. The basin must have enough spare capacity to accept that return without overflowing.
