Thermotec Nova Heat Pumps
Higher-output inverter heating for larger installations
Thermotec Nova heat pumps provide higher-output inverter heating for suitable pond and swimming pool systems. Compare the Nova 36, 36T and 41T below, paying particular attention to single phase versus three phase supply and the substantial water circulation each model needs.

Choosing a Thermotec Nova heat pump
Nova 36, 36T and 41T compared
The Nova 36 uses a single phase supply; the Nova 36T and 41T require three phase. The 36 models specify 15.4m³/hour water flow, while the 41T specifies 17.7m³/hour. These requirements should be checked against the complete filter and pipework system before ordering. All three use 50mm water connections. A higher-output model needs an installation capable of supporting it, including the electrical circuit, circulation and physical access.
Reading the Nova heating figures
The Nova 41T produces 12.78–41.12kW at 27°C air and 26°C water, compared with 9.04–29.14kW at 15°C air and 26°C water. This illustrates why the headline model rating should not be used as a guaranteed winter output. Compare the same test temperatures across models, then assess the duty at your intended operating conditions. Heating output is different from the electricity drawn by the unit.
Nova for a covered koi pond
The manual lists a 9–40°C heating water range and a −15°C to 43°C heating ambient range. The ability to operate in cold air is not a promise of full nominal output at the lowest temperature. For winter pond selection, provide the volume, surface area, cover, construction, insulation, local exposure and desired temperature. The main pond heating guide uses a covered pond with a 12°C winter target as a shortlist basis, rather than a universal litres-per-kW rule.
Plan the installation before delivery
Check the unit’s dimensions and weight, the delivery route and the space needed for servicing. Vertical air discharge requires clear space above the fan and unrestricted air around the unit. Have the water circuit and bypass designed to deliver the specified flow after filter and pipe losses. Support pipework independently, allow for condensate drainage and make sure the heater can be isolated and drained when required.

| Model | Electrical supply | Air discharge |
|---|---|---|
| Thermotec Nova 36kW Single Phase Inverter Pond Heat Pump | Single phase | Vertical |
| Thermotec Nova 36kW Three Phase Inverter Pond Heat Pump | Three phase | Vertical |

Heating output is not electrical consumption
kW can describe either the heat delivered to the water or the electricity used, so check which figure is quoted. In performance tables, A refers to air temperature and W to water temperature, in degrees Celsius. COP compares delivered heat with electrical input at a stated test condition. Compare like-for-like figures rather than using the highest advertised efficiency to predict your annual bill.
Before you order
Measure the water volume and surface area, decide on your target temperature and heating season, and note the cover and insulation. Check the available electrical supply, delivered water flow and outdoor installation space. A suitable cover can reduce the heat that must be replaced. Tell us about exposed filters, pipework and wind so that these are included in the recommendation. During frost, follow the manual’s circulation and drain-down instructions; switching an idle heater off does not remove trapped water.
