Inverter swimming pool heating for an extended season
Thermotec Neo heat pumps are designed for extended-season swimming pool use, with inverter operation, horizontal airflow and Wi-Fi. Compare the available individual sizes below. For a new koi pond system intended for dependable winter heating, the supplier recommends considering Thermotec Edge instead.

Choosing a Thermotec Neo heat pump
Choose Neo for your intended swimming season
Start with the months in which you want to use the pool, the desired water temperature and how consistently a cover will be used. Wind exposure, surface area and exposed above-ground walls can all affect heating demand. The Neo manual lists a −7°C to 43°C heating ambient range and 9–40°C water settings; operating in cold air does not itself establish enough capacity for year-round pond heating.
Compare output in cooler air
The Neo 24kW model publishes 4.70–24.00kW at 27°C air and 26°C water, compared with 4.40–18.50kW at 15°C air and the same water temperature. The difference is relevant when choosing equipment for spring and autumn. Compare the model specifications at the same conditions, and include initial warm-up as well as maintaining temperature once the pool has reached its target.
Inverter operation, Wi-Fi and running cost
The fan and compressor adjust their speed within the operating range as heating demand changes. When the water approaches the target, the unit can reduce output. Electricity consumption still depends on heat loss, weather, water temperature and operating schedule. Maximum COP figures are test results under specified conditions, rather than a fixed efficiency for every hour of the season.
Installation and alternatives for koi ponds
The listed Neo models use a single phase supply and 50mm water connections. Have the circuit sized for the exact unit rather than assuming every capacity can use the same plug or cable. Check actual flow after the filter and pipework, position the horizontal discharge clear of obstructions and provide condensate drainage. If the primary job is winter koi pond heating, compare Edge and Apex before choosing: selection should follow the required duty rather than the cheapest nominal kW rating.

Heating output is not electrical consumption
kW can describe either the heat delivered to the water or the electricity used, so check which figure is quoted. In performance tables, A refers to air temperature and W to water temperature, in degrees Celsius. COP compares delivered heat with electrical input at a stated test condition. Compare like-for-like figures rather than using the highest advertised efficiency to predict your annual bill.
Before you order
Measure the water volume and surface area, decide on your target temperature and heating season, and note the cover and insulation. Check the available electrical supply, delivered water flow and outdoor installation space. A suitable cover can reduce the heat that must be replaced. Tell us about exposed filters, pipework and wind so that these are included in the recommendation. During frost, follow the manual’s circulation and drain-down instructions; switching an idle heater off does not remove trapped water.
