Growth Plus has a 46% protein and 11.3% fat declaration, while Premier lists 37% protein and 7% fat. Wheatgerm declares 28% protein, 8% oils and fats and a minimum of 9% wheat germ in its composition. The yeast-derived Bio-Mos ingredient is a prebiotic, which should not be confused with live probiotic bacteria. Pond Treats, silkworm pupae and freshwater shrimp require their own supplementary-feeding routine.

Build a feeding routine around the pond
Measure water temperature in the pond. Begin with small portions and watch what is eaten before adding more. Reduce feeding when appetite falls or water quality deteriorates. Increase the ration gradually as conditions improve, particularly after a quiet winter period or a change to the filter.
Check that smaller or quieter fish receive food as well as the most active feeders. For sinking food, observe the area below the surface. Count any treats within the daily ration and remove uneaten food.
Pack size and freshness
Choose a quantity that can be used while fresh. A larger pack is useful only if it suits the feeding rate and can be stored correctly.
