Reduce feeding immediately if appetite drops, water becomes cloudy or ammonia or nitrite is detected. Regular observation at feeding time is one of the simplest ways to check fish health. Look for fish that hang back, spit food repeatedly, clamp their fins or behave differently from the rest of the group. Floating food makes this particularly easy, while sinking food should be offered in a clear, observable area. Store all opened food in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, moisture and pests, and reseal it after every use.
