Pump-fed and gravity-fed systems are not interchangeable

This is the pump fed version. In a pump-fed layout the pump sends dirty pond water to a filter above pond level and the clean water returns by gravity. In a gravity-fed layout the filter waterline matches the pond, usually with large-bore bottom-drain or skimmer feeds and a pump after the filter. The inlet, outlet and operating level therefore need to be planned around the exact version on this page.

Do not size a koi filter from the model number alone. Fish load, feeding rate, pond exposure and flow through the bays matter more than a simple headline volume. Allow enough turnover to carry waste to the filter without pushing water so quickly that settlement and mechanical capture are compromised.
