Commercial pumps are bought for very different jobs: feeding a large drum filter, circulating a lake, driving a high waterfall, operating a formal fountain or moving water through a plant room. We stock FlowFriend, Oase and AquaForte models because no single pump style is best at every combination of flow and pressure.
FlowFriend Junior and FlowFriend Pro are efficient variable-speed options for high-flow circulation. FlowFriend HP is the higher-pressure route where the system resistance demands it. The Oase AquaMax Eco Expert and Eco Titanium ranges cover substantial filtration and circulation duties, while the AquaForte P-40000 represents a practical high-pressure alternative.
Efficiency at the working point matters more than maximum flow
A commercial pump may run thousands of hours a year. A small difference in input power at the actual duty can outweigh a large difference in purchase price. We therefore compare the complete pump curve, not one headline figure, and pay close attention to pipe bore, suction conditions and control range.
Access, redundancy and serviceability
Large pumps are heavy and their failure can affect fish welfare or a public display. We plan unions, isolation, lifting space and safe electrical access. Where uninterrupted circulation is critical, a duty-and-standby arrangement or at least a realistic contingency plan is often money well spent.
Matching Commercial Pump Type to the Job
High flow at modest head
Large gravity-fed filters and low-resistance circulation loops reward efficient pumps and generous pipework. FlowFriend Pro, FlowFriend Junior and Oase Eco Titanium models deserve comparison where long running hours make efficiency important.
Higher-pressure systems
Long runs, tall waterfalls, pressurised equipment and restrictive components may need a steeper pump curve. FlowFriend HP and AquaForte P-Series models are designed for this sort of duty. A high-pressure pump on an easy open return can be wasteful, so we calculate the resistance first.
Submersible and 12V options
Oase AquaMax Eco Expert provides robust submersible or dry-mounted options, including specialist 12V models for compatible swimming ponds and accessible features. The electrical system still needs professional design.
What we ask before quoting
We want the required flow, static lift, pipe diameter and length, suction arrangement, equipment losses, operating hours, electrical supply and whether the process can tolerate downtime. If those figures do not exist yet, that is the first piece of work—not a reason to guess.

What makes a pump commercial?
It is designed for larger or more demanding duties where performance, efficiency, control, service access and operating hours are central to the specification.
What is a pump duty point?
It is the required flow at the total head created by the finished system. That point should sit in a suitable part of the pump curve.
When is FlowFriend HP preferable to FlowFriend Pro?
HP is aimed at higher-pressure duties. Pro is often better suited to high flow through lower-resistance circuits.
Why use a variable-speed commercial pump?
It allows commissioning at the real duty, process adjustment and sometimes meaningful energy savings when full output is not always required.
What is duty-and-standby pumping?
Two pumps are arranged so a standby unit can maintain service if the duty pump fails or is isolated for maintenance.
Can a large commercial pump use flexible hose?
At high flow, rigid correctly sized pipe usually gives better hydraulic performance and support. Any flexible connection must be rated and installed appropriately.
Can you compare lifetime running costs?
Yes. We need the expected operating point, hours per day, control strategy and current electricity cost.
Can lake equipment be chosen from surface area alone?
No. Depth, volume, shape, water source, sludge, fish, nutrients and the result you want all affect the solution.
Is aeration the same as filtration?
No. Aeration supports oxygen and circulation; filtration physically captures solids and may provide biological treatment.
Will a fountain aerate an entire lake?
A fountain treats the area it mixes. Long, narrow, deep or sheltered lakes may need additional circulation or diffused aeration.
Should I treat the water before testing it?
We prefer to understand the problem first. Algae, turbidity, low oxygen and sludge can look related but require different responses.
How important is access for maintenance?
Very. Heavy pumps, floating equipment, filters and chemical dosing all need safe access, isolation and a realistic servicing plan.
Can lake systems be installed in stages?
Often yes. Monitoring, aeration and targeted circulation can be staged before larger filtration or treatment work when the design allows it.
Do large systems need backup equipment?
If fish welfare, public safety or water quality depends on continuous operation, alarms and duty/standby equipment are worth discussing.
