Pond Maintenance in Surrey

If you enjoy the pond but struggle to keep up with its filter, plants or seasonal jobs, we can help you put a manageable routine in place. Some ponds need regular equipment care; others need a lighter visit at particular times of year.

We arrange pond maintenance in the Surrey areas we cover, usually through four-weekly rounds. We will look at what your pond needs, what you already do and the practical arrangements for visiting your property.

Starting with a full pond clean

When we take over regular maintenance, we generally like to start with a full pond clean. It gives us a clean starting point and lets us bring the pond up to a high standard before the regular visits begin. From there, we can keep on top of the work and help keep it clean, healthy and running well.

That first clean also helps us get to know the pond inside and out: its shape, size and depth, the equipment in the water, and the pumps, filters and pipework outside it. Knowing the whole setup makes it easier to plan the routine and explain any improvements we think would be worthwhile.

We will talk through the initial clean and quote for it separately from the regular maintenance visits. We will also agree the right approach for the pond and its wildlife before starting any work.

Start with the pond you have

A koi pond with mechanical filtration needs a different plan from an established wildlife pond. The right visit should deal with a real workload, rather than disturb the pond simply because a date has come round.

Tell us about the fish, the planting, the equipment and any changes you have noticed. If the filter is difficult to reach or the plants are getting beyond what you can manage, photographs help us understand the job before agreeing the visit.

We usually return every four weeks to keep on top of the regular jobs. Some filters need cleaning more often, especially when fish are feeding heavily, so we will explain what to check between our visits. If your pond needs more or less help, we can agree a different routine.

Regular filter and equipment care

Depending on the setup, we can clean or service filters, clear pump intakes and skimmers, check circulation and look for visible problems with the equipment and pipework. We also discuss what needs checking between appointments.

We do not assume a larger filter or new pump is the answer to every problem. A blocked intake, an overdue clean and an equipment failure need different responses. If a repair or replacement is needed, we can discuss filter, pump and equipment work alongside the maintenance.

A self-cleaning drum can reduce the amount of manual filter cleaning, but it still needs inspection and the rest of the pond still needs looking after. The visit interval should reflect your particular system.

Seasonal care and established planting

The work changes through the year. We can discuss spring plant care, the extra attention a fish pond may need as feeding increases, and leaf removal and equipment checks as autumn approaches. Winter visits may focus on a different set of tasks from summer ones.

A planted pond does not need every part stripped back to look tidy. We agree what to retain and which areas need attention. Where water lilies or other plants need dividing or repotting, we can include that in the discussion rather than treat it as an automatic job each month.

Our wildlife pond maintenance guide explains why a lighter approach can be appropriate. Wildlife ponds can need less frequent professional intervention than fish ponds with a substantial filter-cleaning workload.

Surrey pond work you can see

The Pond Clean and Winter Maintenance – Horley, Surrey records cleaning and winter maintenance, with Martin’s feedback about the help he received. The visit combined cleaning with seasonal help. If you need occasional support, we can discuss that too.

Now have a lovely clear working pond again many thanks!

Our Pond cleaning and planting in Croydon, Surrey shows another part of practical pond care. We cleaned the pond, filter and pump and potted irises and water lilies. The photograph at the top of this page shows the fish and planting during that visit.

You can follow the photographs through to each job and read the customer’s review. If you would like similar help, send us a few pictures of your own pond and tell us what is becoming difficult to keep up with.

Surrey areas and visit arrangements

We take maintenance enquiries from Guildford, Woking, Godalming, Farnham, Camberley and Haslemere, as well as Weybridge, Walton-on-Thames, Chertsey, Esher and Cobham.

We also welcome enquiries from Epsom, Leatherhead, Dorking, Reigate, Redhill, Horley, Caterham, Oxted and Cranleigh, including the surrounding villages.

Send your exact postcode so we can check whether your address fits a regular round and confirm the travel arrangements. If your town is not listed, please ask.

Show the route from parking to the pond, including side gates, steps, slopes and any narrow corners. Access to the equipment matters as much as access to the water. If a filter is inside an enclosure or behind planting, include that in the photographs.

For accumulated waste or a neglected pond that needs a larger job, see pond cleaning in Surrey. Our pond maintenance service page explains the wider service across the South East.

What affects the maintenance price?

The location, pond, equipment and work needed all contribute to the quote. A visit to maintain an accessible filter is different from a visit involving several pieces of equipment and substantial plant work. Describe what you need help with so we can agree a realistic scope.

The £60–£180 plus VAT range is per maintenance visit. A full clean, structural repairs or replacement equipment are separate matters to discuss when we assess the pond.

Questions about pond maintenance in Surrey

Can you help if I only want seasonal visits?

Yes. Tell us which jobs you want help with and when. We can discuss seasonal support as well as the usual four-weekly routine, with arrangements suited to the pond.

Does every pond need a professional visit every four weeks?

No. It is our usual starting point for ponds needing regular care, not a universal timetable. A wildlife pond, an automated koi system and a manually cleaned filter can need very different amounts of work.

Can regular visits replace a full pond clean?

Regular visits help us keep on top of the pond once it is in good condition. When we first take over its care, we generally like to start with a full clean, then maintain that standard. We will discuss the pond’s condition, planting and wildlife before agreeing the initial work.

Tell us about your Surrey pond

Please send us your pond details, with the postcode, approximate size, fish details and photographs of the pond, equipment and access. Let us know what you can comfortably do yourself and what you would like us to take over. That is the most useful starting point for a maintenance quote.
