Pond Maintenance in Kent
A pond can look fine from the garden while its filter is getting harder to clean, the pump intake is collecting leaves or the lilies are starting to crowd the water. Regular visits give us time to deal with those jobs before they become a much bigger task.
We look after garden ponds, koi ponds and ornamental ponds across Kent. We generally work on a four-weekly round, agreeing the work around the pond, its equipment and the care you want to do yourself.
Starting with a full pond clean
When we take over regular maintenance, we generally like to start with a full pond clean. It gives us a clean starting point and lets us bring the pond up to a high standard before the regular visits begin. From there, we can keep on top of the work and help keep it clean, healthy and running well.
That first clean also helps us get to know the pond inside and out: its shape, size and depth, the equipment in the water, and the pumps, filters and pipework outside it. Knowing the whole setup makes it easier to plan the routine and explain any improvements we think would be worthwhile.
We will talk through the initial clean and quote for it separately from the regular maintenance visits. We will also agree the right approach for the pond and its wildlife before starting any work.
A regular visit, with a routine that fits your pond
We usually return every four weeks to keep on top of the regular jobs. Some filters need cleaning more often, especially when fish are feeding heavily, so we will explain what to check between our visits. If your pond needs more or less help, we can agree a different routine.
Some owners are happy to skim leaves and check the flow but would rather leave the filter to us. Others want help with plants, seasonal jobs and keeping an eye on the whole system. Tell us what is becoming awkward or getting missed. A useful maintenance arrangement starts there.
We group visits into area rounds. That helps us plan the travelling and the work, but your postcode still matters: being in Kent does not mean every address has the same visit price or the same available day. We will confirm the arrangements for your pond.
What we can look after
- Filter cleaning and servicing suited to the type of filter you have.
- Skimmer baskets, pump intakes and accessible debris that needs removing.
- Water level, circulation and the visible condition of pumps, hoses and fittings.
- Plant trimming, water lily care and excessive growth where that work has been agreed.
- Seasonal jobs and advice about the checks to keep doing between visits.
The list is a starting point, rather than a promise to carry out every possible job at every visit. We agree what needs doing and look at anything that has changed since the previous appointment.
Filter maintenance in West Malling
Pond filter maintenance in West Malling, Kent shows one of the less glamorous but important parts of pond keeping. Natalie cleaned Jean’s existing Oase ScreenMatic filter as part of the pond’s regular maintenance. The photographs show the open filter, its screen and collection tray, and the foams during the visit.
That is why we ask for a photograph of the filter as well as the pond. A unit tucked behind planting or in an awkward corner may be the part of the system that takes the most work. We need to know what it is and how we can reach it.
Care that continues after new equipment is fitted
Margaret’s Pond filtration and maintenance in West Kingsdown, Kent began with filter installation in 2025. We continued looking after the pond, and her later review describes Natalie returning to service the pumps and filters and fit a new UV clarifying light in August 2026.
Installing equipment and maintaining it are different parts of the job. If your existing system works well, the routine should help you keep using it. If something is failing or unsuitable, we can discuss filter, pump and equipment work separately.
We have asked Matthew to maintain our other ponds as a consequence.
What if the pond has a self-cleaning drum filter?
A drum takes much of the regular screen-cleaning work off your hands. It does not remove the need to check the rest of the pond, and a fault or loss of power still needs attention.
Our Drum filter maintenance in Cuxton, Kent is a practical example. We returned after a power cut had stopped the drum, got it running again and made a further check later that month. The follow-up dealt with a filter problem; your own routine will depend on the equipment and support you need.

Before we give you a visit price
Send a wide photograph of the pond, the filter and pump, approximate dimensions, fish details and a view of the access. Let us know whether you are looking for regular help, a seasonal visit or attention to a particular problem.
If there is a thick layer of sludge or a damaged liner, we will talk through that work before agreeing a regular maintenance routine. Our pond cleaning service and pond relining and repairs pages explain those different services.
Questions about Kent maintenance visits
Does four-weekly mean once a calendar month?
Not quite. Four-weekly visits are 28 days apart, so a full year can contain about 13 visits. The price here is per visit; we will explain the proposed arrangements when we quote.
Can the filter need attention before you come back?
Yes. The workload depends on the filter, fish, feeding and debris. We will explain the checks and cleaning needed between our visits. Reduced flow or an equipment fault should not be left until the next round.
Do you have to drain the pond?
Not at every maintenance visit. When we first take over a pond, we generally like to begin with a full clean so we can get it to a good standard and understand the whole setup. We will discuss what is appropriate for your pond and quote that initial work separately.
