Charles Austen HX88F Fountain Pumps

Fountain-ready circulation pumps from 1,050 to 8,000 litres per hour

HX88F uses the same stepped hydraulic family as HX88 but is sold for fountain and circulation work, with the option of a fountain bracket or attachment. Models on this page run from HX8810F to HX8890F.

These pumps can operate submerged or in a correctly flooded external installation. Thermal protection, an aluminium-ceramic shaft and a front filter intake support continuous feature use.

The nozzle and desired spray decide the model. A tall jet needs head as well as litres per hour; a broad cascade needs volume. Start with the nozzle performance requirement.

Model Comparison

Model Maximum flow Maximum head Power
HX8810F 1,050 l/h 1.4 m 12 W
HX8815F 1,400 l/h 1.8 m 20 W
HX8820F 1,950 l/h 1.95 m 25 W
HX8825F 2,400 l/h 2.15 m 35 W
HX8830F 2,900 l/h 2.3 m 45 W
HX8840F 4,000 l/h 3.0 m 70 W
HX8850F 4,900 l/h 3.3 m 95 W
HX8860F 5,800 l/h 4.1 m 130 W
HX8890F 8,000 l/h 5.0 m 200 W

Maximum figures compare the models. Real flow falls as lift, pipe friction and connected equipment add resistance.

Match the pump to the nozzle

Nozzle charts normally state the flow and pressure required for a given height and width. Use that duty point rather than selecting a pump from the fountain basin volume.

Allow for the rise from water surface to nozzle and loss through any tee, valve or narrow adaptor.

Stable, serviceable fountain installation

Support the pump and bracket so the nozzle remains vertical. Place the intake where it will not draw sediment, and include access for cleaning without disturbing the entire fountain.

For an external pump, maintain flooded suction and follow the approved installation method.

HX88F or a dedicated high-end fountain pump

HX88F is a practical range for modest and medium displays. Large architectural jets or controllable commercial features may justify an Oase Aquarius or another performance-curve-led system.

Our advice: send us the nozzle, target height and basin arrangement. We can check whether HX88F has enough head before you build around it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does F mean in HX88F?

It identifies the fountain-oriented version of the HX88 family.

Is a fountain attachment included?

Package content varies; confirm the exact product listing and bracket/nozzle option.

Which model creates the tallest potential display?

HX8890F has the highest published maximum head at 5.0 m.

Can I choose by fountain basin volume?

No. Choose from nozzle flow and pressure at the required display height.

Can HX88F run continuously?

The range is designed for continuous aquatic and hydroponic duties, subject to correct installation and maintenance.

Can it be installed externally?

Yes, with flooded suction and the manufacturer installation method.

Does a valve change fountain height?

It can trim flow, but approved control or correct pump sizing is usually more efficient.

Can I use HX88F for filtration?

It can circulate screened water, but a caged debris-handling filter pump may be better for a pond floor.

Does maximum flow tell me what reaches the outlet?

No. Maximum flow is measured at little or no head. Lift, pipe length, fittings and connected equipment reduce delivered flow.

Is maximum head the height for full flow?

No. It is the shut-off end of the curve, where useful flow approaches zero.

Should I use the largest practical pipe bore?

Yes. Generous, smooth pipework usually improves real flow and efficiency.

Can I throttle the pump with a valve?

Where permitted, a valve can trim flow, but heavy throttling wastes performance. Correct sizing or approved electronic control is preferable.

How often should the pump be cleaned?

Inspect and clean the intake and impeller whenever output falls and during routine pond maintenance.

Can you help me choose the model?

Yes. Send us the desired flow, vertical lift, pipe bore and length, fittings and connected filter or feature.

Why is my flow lower than the model name?

The model figure is a maximum comparison point, not the delivered flow through a real installation.
