HIBLOW air pumps have earned a strong reputation around koi ponds because they are simple, quiet and built for continuous aeration duty. This page covers the traditional HP range—HP20, HP40, HP80, HP100 and HP200—and the lower-wattage XP40, XP60 and XP80 models.
The model numbers give a useful indication of nominal airflow: the HP20 provides roughly 18–20 litres per minute, the HP40 40 LPM, the HP80 80 LPM, the HP100 100 LPM and the HP200 200 LPM. The real delivered airflow falls as diffuser depth and system resistance increase.
HP or XP?
The HP series is the familiar workhorse range. The XP40, XP60 and XP80 are the energy-conscious alternatives for moderate-pressure duties. We compare the airflow at your depth, not just free-air output, before deciding that a low-wattage model is the better choice.
Size the pump around what the air is doing
General pond oxygenation, an aerated bottom drain and a moving-bed filter are different loads. A moving bed may need steady pressure to keep media rolling, while several deep diffusers add back-pressure and require careful manifold balancing.

Choosing a HIBLOW Air Pump
HP20 and HP40
These compact models suit small ponds, quarantine systems, individual air stones and light filter duties. They are not intended to drive a deep multi-diffuser system simply because several outlets can be connected to a manifold.
HP80 and HP100
These are popular sizes for koi ponds, aerated bottom drains and biological chambers. The difference between 80 and 100 LPM is useful, but diffuser depth and pressure performance should decide between them.
HP200
The HP200 is the large-output option for substantial multi-diffuser or filtration systems. Plan larger airline or manifolds so the distribution equipment does not waste the pump’s capacity.
XP40, XP60 and XP80
The XP models are attractive where long running hours make electricity use important. We use them when the required pressure sits comfortably within their useful range, rather than treating lower wattage as the only specification.
Keep the pump dry and ventilated
Position the air pump above water level where possible, sheltered from rain but able to breathe. Do not seal it into an airtight box. Keep spare diaphragms and service parts in mind for any pond that depends on continuous air.

What is the difference between HIBLOW HP and XP?

No. It is a useful nominal guide, but delivered airflow falls as water depth and diffuser resistance increase.
Can an HP80 run an aerated bottom drain?
Often yes, but the diffuser depth, type and any additional outlets determine whether HP80 provides enough airflow.
Can HIBLOW pumps run a moving-bed filter?
Yes, when the airflow and pressure are sufficient to keep the specified media volume moving.
Do HIBLOW pumps contain oil?
The HP and XP pond-air pumps use diaphragm technology and provide oil-free air.
What service parts wear?
Diaphragms and related valve or safety parts are normal service items. Follow the kit and interval for the exact model.
Why does diffuser depth affect air-pump choice?
The pump has to overcome the water pressure at that depth before it can push air through the diffuser. A free-air figure does not describe performance at the bottom of the pond.
Can one air pump run several air stones?
Yes, if the pump has enough output at the required pressure. Use a suitable manifold and balance the outlets rather than choking one branch completely.
Why has the airflow dropped?
Check for blocked diffusers, kinked airline, closed valves, inlet-filter dirt, leaks and worn service parts.
Where should a pond air pump be positioned?
Keep it dry, ventilated and above water level where possible. If it must sit lower, use the approved backflow protection and installation method.
Should pond aeration run at night?
Night-time aeration can be particularly valuable because plants and algae stop producing oxygen and continue to respire.
Can too much air be a problem?
Violent circulation in a small or shallow pond can disturb fish and plants. The aim is useful oxygen transfer and water movement, not the largest possible boil.
Do air diffusers need maintenance?
Yes. Mineral deposits and biofilm increase resistance and reduce bubble quality. Clean or replace them before the pump is forced to work against excessive pressure.
