Pond Maintenance in London
Keeping a pond does not mean you have to take on every filter clean or struggle with equipment you are unsure about. We can help with regular pond care, explain the checks that matter and agree which jobs you would like us to do.
We arrange maintenance visits across the London areas we cover, generally on four-weekly rounds. The work and price depend on your pond, its equipment and the practical arrangements at the property.
Starting with a full pond clean
When we take over regular maintenance, we generally like to start with a full pond clean. It gives us a clean starting point and lets us bring the pond up to a high standard before the regular visits begin. From there, we can keep on top of the work and help keep it clean, healthy and running well.
That first clean also helps us get to know the pond inside and out: its shape, size and depth, the equipment in the water, and the pumps, filters and pipework outside it. Knowing the whole setup makes it easier to plan the routine and explain any improvements we think would be worthwhile.
We will talk through the initial clean and quote for it separately from the regular maintenance visits. We will also agree the right approach for the pond and its wildlife before starting any work.
From a first clean to regular care
Rita’s Pond cleaning and maintenance in Harrow shows how the two can fit together. We first cleaned her pond in September 2025 and returned for maintenance. Her later review describes the support she had received from the teams.
The pond photograph below is from an October maintenance visit. The pressure filter was photographed during the earlier clean. They show different visits over the course of looking after the same pond.
They know exactly what they are doing and I would have no problem in recommending them.
What happens on a maintenance round?
We usually return every four weeks to keep on top of the regular jobs. Some filters need cleaning more often, especially when fish are feeding heavily, so we will explain what to check between our visits. If your pond needs more or less help, we can agree a different routine.
We agree the tasks around the system you have. That might mean cleaning an existing pressure filter, keeping a skimmer and pump intake clear, checking the flow or cutting back planting that is making the equipment difficult to reach.
We also want to hear what has changed. A fountain losing flow, an unfamiliar filter alarm or a falling water level needs a different conversation from routine leaf removal. Tell us when it started and what you have already tried.
Regular visits support the care of the pond; they do not replace the simple checks an owner needs to make between appointments. We will explain those checks and discuss whether the planned interval is suitable.
Looking after the filter you already own
There is no benefit in recommending new equipment simply because a pond needs attention. We first look at what is installed, how it is working and how it is maintained. Where an improvement is needed, we can explain it alongside the ongoing workload.
Our New Filter and Maintenance – Sanderstead, London records a new filter installation followed by a maintenance arrangement. Jane’s review describes both the equipment advice and the plan to keep the pond looked after.
The photograph at the top of this page shows koi through the viewing window at the Sanderstead pond.
If you need similar help, send a photograph of the model label and the connections as well as the whole filter. Our filter, pump and equipment work page explains the service when a repair or replacement is part of the job.
Access and arranging a London visit
Before we offer a date, show us how to reach the pond. A side passage, steps, a route through the property or a filter behind a shed can affect how the visit needs to be planned. Please mention parking restrictions and the distance from a practical parking place to the garden.
London visits are grouped into area rounds. Prices are usually £60–£180 plus VAT per visit, depending on the location, access, equipment and work. Send your postcode so we can check the round and give you a quote.
It is also useful to say who will provide access, whether the filter controls are easy to reach and which garden areas need to remain clear while we work. Those details help us prepare for the visit.
London areas we cover
We welcome maintenance enquiries across the parts of north, south, east and west London we serve, including Harrow, Ealing, Greenwich, Bromley, Bexley, Sidcup, Erith. Send the exact postcode so we can confirm coverage and discuss the current round.
For maintenance elsewhere in the South East, see our pond maintenance service, or read about pond cleaning in London if the pond needs a larger clean first.
More care, or less intervention?
A heavily stocked koi pond can have a substantial equipment-cleaning workload. A planted wildlife pond may need lighter, selective help. A self-cleaning drum can reduce manual screen cleaning, but the pump, waste discharge and other equipment still need attention.
We discuss the routine in that context. We do not automatically drain a pond at a regular maintenance visit, and we do not treat a clear-looking pond as proof that every part of the system is working properly.
Questions about London pond maintenance
Can you maintain a small pond?
Yes. Send photographs and dimensions. A small pond may still have equipment that needs regular attention, while another may only need occasional help. We quote for the work and location, rather than using size alone.
Will the filter still need checking between visits?
It may. The filter and fish load determine its cleaning needs. We will explain what you should check, and a loss of flow or other fault should not wait for the next planned visit.
Do you service ponds with automatic filters?
Yes. Tell us the exact equipment and what support you want. Automation can change the maintenance workload; it does not make every system unattended or maintenance-free.
Arrange a maintenance quote
Please send us your pond details, including the postcode, pond and equipment photographs, fish details and access information. Tell us which tasks are difficult to keep up with. Our koi pond maintenance guide is also useful if you want to understand more about the routine between visits.
