Gold Label Pond Paint Clear

Water based clear pond paint for concrete ponds, fibreglass and plastic surfaces

Gold Label Pond Paint Clear is a water based pond paint system designed for sealing, protecting and refreshing suitable pond surfaces. It is a practical choice for concrete ponds, blockwork, brick, tile, fibreglass and plastic surfaces where the substrate is sound, clean and correctly prepared before painting.

Gold Label Aqua Pond Paint is different from traditional solvent-heavy pond coatings because it is supplied as a water based two-part paint with an activator. Once mixed and applied correctly, it forms a waterproof pond coating that is designed to be fish safe after full curing, washing and final preparation. It is popular for koi ponds, wildlife ponds, formal water features and refurbishment projects where a brush, roller or spray-applied finish is preferred.

The clear version provides a clear finish that helps protect and seal without deliberately changing the colour of the prepared surface. It is especially useful where you want a neater looking pond surface without moving to a full liner or fibreglass conversion. On smooth, sound surfaces the system normally requires a minimum of two coats, making it straightforward for both trade and careful DIY use.

Gold Label Pond Paint is self-priming on suitable surfaces, so a separate primer is not normally required when the surface is solid and properly prepared. Rough or porous concrete may need the first coat thinned with clean water as recommended by the manufacturer, while cracks, holes and defects should be repaired before painting. Large cracks should be opened out and filled with a suitable pond-safe repair product before the paint system is applied.

For comparison, Gold Label Pond Paint Black is the matching alternative colour in the same range. For polyurethane-style pond sealers, compare Gold Label with G4 Pond Sealer Clear, G4 Black Pond Sealer and the Prymax Pond Sealer range.

When to choose Gold Label Pond Paint

Choose Gold Label Pond Paint when you want a relatively easy to apply water based coating with good coverage, simple tool clean-up and a shorter practical return-to-service process than many traditional resin systems. It is ideal for customers who want a pond coating that feels closer to painting a wall, while still requiring careful pond preparation and curing.

  • Good choice for concrete ponds, water features and prepared pond surfaces
  • Suitable for use on damp surfaces when the manufacturer instructions are followed
  • Useful where a water based coating is preferred over a solvent-heavy coating
  • Best for surfaces that are sound, clean, stable and free from loose material
  • Not designed to repair structural movement, hollow render or badly cracked pond walls

Application and preparation guidance

Before painting, remove algae, grease, loose coating, dust and other contamination. Repair cracks or imperfections first, then allow the surface to be suitably prepared before coating. The hardener / activator must be mixed thoroughly into the paint before use, and the mixed product should be applied promptly because working time is limited.

Apply by brush, roller or spray, taking care to work the coating into corners, returns and detailed areas. A minimum of two coats is normally required on smooth surfaces. The second coat can usually be applied once the first is touch dry, typically after around 6 to 8 hours at 20°C. Once fully cured, wash the pond surface and drain away the wash water before the final fill.

Important note before filling the pond

Do not refill the pond until the paint has cured fully. Wash the surface after curing, drain the wash water away and refill with fresh dechlorinated water. Where fish are being returned to the pond, check water quality first and reintroduce livestock carefully.
