Unlike traditional inline UV clarifiers that are installed within pipework, submersible UV units sit directly inside the filtration system itself. However, Burtons Amalgam Submersible UV units offer a higher performance option. These lamps produce stronger ultraviolet radiation and provide a longer operating life of up to 13,000 hours.

In addition, amalgam technology allows the UV lamp to operate more efficiently across a wider temperature range while maintaining stable UV output. Therefore, for larger ponds, heavily stocked koi ponds or high performance filtration systems, amalgam UV units often provide improved long term performance.

Installation and Compatibility

Burtons Submersible UV clarifiers are designed for installation inside filtration chambers. Most commonly, they are installed inside Burtons drum filters and combi filter systems.

However, they can also be installed in other suitable filtration chambers where submersible installation is possible.

For certain Burtons drum filters including the BD300, BD300 Combi, BD500 and BD700, a stainless steel UV fitting is required in order to mount the UV unit securely within the filter housing.

In addition, the 80 watt model is supplied with a Burtons UV weather box. This provides additional protection for the electrical components and improves long term reliability.

Choosing the Correct UV Size

Choosing the correct UV size depends on several factors including pond volume, fish stocking levels and the filtration system being used.

For example, smaller ponds and lightly stocked ornamental ponds may only require a 10 watt or 20 watt UV unit. On the other hand, larger ponds and koi ponds will benefit from the higher output provided by the 30 watt, 40 watt or 80 watt models.
