Ceramic Air Stones
Porous ceramic air stones for fine bubble pond and filter aeration
Ceramic Air Stones are porous aeration diffusers used to add fine bubbles to ponds, koi ponds, quarantine tanks, holding vats and filter chambers. They are a practical choice where you need a simple diffuser for a smaller air pump, an individual tank, a temporary holding system or an extra aeration point inside a filter.
These air stones are made from grey blue porous ceramic material and are designed to produce fine bubbles for better oxygen transfer than a coarse open airline. Supplier information describes the ceramic material as hardened at high temperature, around 1300°C, with an aluminium alloy. This gives a durable diffuser that is resistant to corrosion and suitable for long term aeration use when it is matched to the correct air pump.
The range includes round, short bar and longer bar style options. The smaller stones are suited to lighter aeration jobs, while the larger 50mm x 200mm and 50mm x 300mm versions are better for bigger tanks, ponds and filter chambers. The most important thing is to choose a stone that suits the air output available. Too little air can give a weak bubble pattern, while too much air through a small stone can create unnecessary back pressure.
Key benefits
- Fine bubble ceramic air stones for ponds, tanks and filter chambers
- Useful for quarantine systems, temporary fish holding and biological filters
- Available in several shapes and sizes to suit different air outputs
- Porous ceramic material produces a controlled bubble pattern
- Helps increase dissolved oxygen and support beneficial filter bacteria
- Can be used as individual air points or as part of a manifolded aeration system
- Simple, low cost way to add extra aeration where needed
Available sizes
| Option | Approximate size | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| 30mm x 130mm | 30mm x 130mm | Small tanks, quarantine vats and lower airflow aeration points |
| 50mm Round | 50mm Round | Compact round air stone for smaller tanks and targeted aeration |
| 50mm x 200mm | 50mm x 200mm | Medium bar style air stone for ponds, vats and filter chambers |
| 50mm x 300mm | 50mm x 300mm | Larger bar style air stone for stronger air pumps and wider bubble coverage |
Technical specifications
- Product type: Porous ceramic pond air stone
- Material: Grey blue porous ceramic
- Construction note: High temperature hardened ceramic according to supplier information
- Available forms: Round, short bar and longer bar air stones
- Bubble type: Fine bubble aeration
- Best use: Pond aeration, quarantine tanks, fish holding vats, aquaculture and filter chambers
- Air pump guidance: Match stone size to air pump output and water depth
- Manifold guidance: Use a manifold where several air stones are supplied from one pump
- Maintenance: Clean or replace when pores become blocked and bubble output falls
How to choose the right air stone
Choose the air stone by looking at the water depth, the air pump size and the area you want to aerate. A small round stone is ideal for a single holding tank or quarantine setup. A longer bar stone gives a wider bubble line and is better where you want more visible movement across a filter bay or pond area. For serious koi pond aeration, a weighted rubber or membrane diffuser may be a better long term choice than a small ceramic stone.

Maintenance advice
If an air stone starts bubbling from only one end, check the airline, manifold valve and pump first. If airflow is still uneven, the ceramic pores may be blocked by dirt, biofilm or limescale. A blocked air stone increases resistance on the pump, so it should be cleaned or replaced rather than left in place with poor airflow.
Suitable airline and manifolds
Ceramic air stones are best matched to the correct airline and a manifold that allows each outlet to be balanced. The Air Manifold with 8mm Inlet and 4mm Outlets is useful when one 8mm feed needs to be split into several smaller air lines.
