Burtons Air Diffusers are long weighted pond air diffusers designed to create a line of fine bubbles across a pond, koi pond, quarantine system or biological filter. They are available in 500mm, 1000mm, 1500mm and 2000mm lengths, making them useful where you want broader aeration coverage than a single air stone can provide.

The porous diffuser body allows air to pass through evenly along the length of the diffuser. This creates a wide bubble pattern that can increase dissolved oxygen, improve water movement and support biological filtration. In a filter chamber, the moving water and oxygen help bacteria perform more effectively. In a pond or holding system, the rising bubbles help draw deeper water upward and reduce stagnant areas.

Burtons diffusers are weighted so they sit more securely in place than lightweight air stones or loose airline. They are often used with larger pond air pumps, but they still need to be matched sensibly to the available airflow. A diffuser that is too long for the pump will look weak, while forcing too much air through too small a setup can increase back pressure. On larger systems, use a manifold to balance several outlets.

Which size should I choose?

The 500mm diffuser is usually enough for smaller areas or a single filter bay. The 1000mm version is a good general pond option. The 1500mm and 2000mm versions are better suited to larger ponds, wider filter chambers or installations where you want a longer bubble line. Larger diffusers should normally be paired with larger bore airline to reduce friction loss over distance.

Installation advice

Keep the airline route as short and unrestricted as practical. If the diffuser is placed a long distance from the air pump, use a larger bore sinking airline and step down only where necessary at the diffuser. The air pump should be installed above water level where possible, or protected with suitable non return valves to reduce the risk of water tracking back into the pump.
