Poolex Nano Ultra Compact Pool Heat Pump

Compact, quiet and efficient above ground pool heating for small garden pools

Please note, this Poolex Nano Ultra Compact model is currently out of stock. We recommend viewing the Poolex Nano FI Full Inverter Heat Pump instead, which is currently in stock and is the newer full inverter version for small above ground pools. It offers improved efficiency, quieter running and more precise temperature control, making it the best current alternative for customers looking to heat a Bestway, Intex, framed, wooden or compact garden swimming pool.

The Poolex Nano Ultra Compact Pool Heat Pump is a fantastic choice for heating small above ground swimming pools, especially where space, simplicity and running costs matter. Designed for domestic garden pools, the Poolex Nano is ideal for above ground pools, framed pools, wooden pools, seasonal pools, small garden swimming pools and compact family pools that need reliable heating without a complicated installation.

The Poolex Nano is suitable for many Bestway, Intex, framed, tubular, wooden and other above ground swimming pools, provided the filtration system can maintain the required water flow and can be connected using suitable 32mm or 38mm hoses.

Above ground pools are quick to install and great fun in the summer, but they can lose heat quickly, especially in the UK. Cooler nights, cloudy days, wind exposure and poor insulation can all make the water feel cold, even when the weather has been warm.

The Poolex Nano helps solve this problem by using efficient air source heat pump technology to draw warmth from the surrounding air and transfer it into the pool water. This gives a much more efficient form of pool heating than a basic electric heater, helping you enjoy warmer, more comfortable water while keeping energy use sensible.

The Poolex Nano is designed to be easy to live with. It comes with a mains cable and pre fitted RCD safety plug, allowing it to plug into a suitable RCD protected outdoor socket.

The supplied hose tails are suitable for common 32 mm and 38 mm pool hoses, making it a practical choice for many above ground pool setups. The unit is compact enough to sit neatly beside a pool, on a patio, near decking or in a small garden space, with dimensions of only 440 mm x 400 mm x 390 mm.

Despite its small size, the Nano offers impressive performance. The Nano 3.5 provides up to 3.25 kW of heating output, while the Nano 5.5 provides up to 5.0 kW. With a COP of up to 5.5 on the Nano 3.5 and up to 5.4 on the Nano 5.5 in warm test conditions, the heat pump can produce several times more heat output than the electricity it consumes.

In simple terms, this means you can get up to around five times the heat output for every pound spent on electricity, depending on weather conditions, pool size and setup.

Perfect for small above ground pools

The Poolex Nano has been designed specifically with small above ground pools in mind. Many larger swimming pool heat pumps are too big, too complex or simply unnecessary for small seasonal pools. The Nano gives you proper heat pump technology in a compact and user friendly unit that is much better suited to domestic garden pool use.

It is also very quiet, operating at under 30 dB at 10 metres. This makes it ideal for gardens, patios and family spaces where you want to enjoy the pool without the heater becoming a noisy distraction. The compact footprint also makes it easier to position in tight spaces where a larger pool heat pump would look bulky or awkward.

Heating, cooling and automatic control

The Poolex Nano is not just a heater. It includes heating, cooling and automatic operating modes, giving you better control throughout the swimming season.

Heating mode helps raise and maintain your chosen pool temperature.

Cooling mode can reduce excessive water temperature during very hot weather.

Automatic mode allows the unit to regulate the temperature more intelligently.

The adjustable temperature range gives good flexibility for different users, pool types and weather conditions. This is especially useful in the UK, where the weather can change quickly and pool temperatures can vary from day to day.

Smart WiFi app control

Built in 2.4GHz WiFi allows the Poolex Nano to be controlled from your phone using the Poolex app. The Smart Life app can also be used. Once connected, you can adjust the target temperature, change operating modes and monitor the heater remotely.

This is a useful feature for above ground pool owners because you can check and adjust the heater without going outside. You can start warming the pool before use, make changes during the day and keep an eye on performance more easily.

Durable titanium heat exchanger

The Poolex Nano uses a Twisted Tech titanium heat exchanger, which is designed for use with swimming pool water. Titanium is highly resistant to corrosion, making the heat pump suitable for correctly maintained chlorine and salt treated pools.

This is an important feature for long term reliability, as pool water can be harsh on cheaper materials. The Nano also uses R32 refrigerant and a GMCC rotary compressor for dependable performance in a compact outdoor unit.

Automatic defrost for cooler weather

Automatic defrost helps prevent ice build up on the rear of the unit during colder conditions. This allows the heat pump to operate across a wider seasonal window, helping you start using the pool earlier in spring and continue later into autumn when conditions allow.

As with all air source pool heat pumps, performance will depend on the air temperature. Heat pumps work best when the surrounding air is warm because there is more heat energy available to transfer into the pool. In cooler weather, the unit will still work, but the COP will reduce and heating times will increase.

Does the Poolex Nano need a bypass kit?

A bypass kit is not essential for every Poolex Nano installation. Where your filtration system provides a suitable water flow of approximately 1.4m³ per hour, the heat pump can normally be connected directly into the return line.

A bypass kit is recommended where the filtration pump produces considerably more flow than the heat pump requires. It allows the water passing through the heater to be adjusted while also making it easier to isolate the Nano for maintenance and winterisation.

Depending on your existing pool setup, you may also require additional 38mm swimming pool hose and stainless steel hose clips.

Pool covers and insulation

If you are heating an above ground pool, a pool cover is strongly recommended. A large amount of swimming pool heat is lost through surface evaporation, particularly overnight. Using a solar cover or bubble cover when the pool is not in use helps retain heat, reduce running costs and make the heat pump more effective.

Above ground pools are usually less insulated than in ground pools, so heat can also be lost through the sides and base. Adding insulation around the pool where practical can help retain valuable heat and may improve seasonal performance.

Sizing advice for UK pools

The Poolex Nano 3.5 is suitable for small pools up to 20 m³ in favourable conditions.

The Poolex Nano 5.5 is suitable for small pools up to 30 m³ in favourable conditions.

Pool sizing can vary depending on climate, wind exposure, desired water temperature, cover use and how long you want to use the pool each year. Manufacturer recommended pool sizes are often based on warmer climates, so UK customers should size carefully. If you want faster heating, a longer season or warmer water in cooler weather, it is often better to choose the larger model.

Positioning the heat pump

The Poolex Nano should always be installed outside where it has access to free flowing air. The outdoor casing protects the unit from normal weather conditions, but it should not be placed in an enclosed shed, box or tight space where airflow is restricted.

For above ground pools, the heat pump can be positioned at ground level beside the pool. There is normally no need to raise it above the waterline. Keep the unit level, stable and clear around the fan area so it can move air properly.

Prefer quieter Full Inverter pool heating?

The standard Poolex Nano is a compact and affordable On/Off heat pump that is ideal for straightforward seasonal pool heating. For quieter temperature maintenance, variable-speed compressor control and improved energy efficiency, view the Poolex Nano FI Compact Full Inverter Heat Pump for Above-Ground Pools.

The Nano FI automatically adjusts its compressor and fan speed according to the pool’s heating requirements, rather than repeatedly operating at full output. It is available in 3kW and 5kW models for small above-ground pools up to 20m³ or 30m³ in favourable conditions.
