Evolution Aqua Nexus 220+ Automatic Cleaning Kit – Gravity
Automatic Cleaning Upgrade for Gravity Fed Nexus 220+ Filters
The Evolution Aqua Nexus 220+ Automatic Cleaning Kit – Gravity fully automates the cleaning cycle of compatible gravity fed Nexus filtration systems. Instead of manually closing slide valves, switching off pumps and operating waste outlets, the system manages each stage automatically through an integrated control unit.
This kit can be installed on Nexus 220 filters manufactured from 2006 onwards, including the earlier Nexus 210 models. However, the newer Nexus 220+ and Nexus 220+ Ti filters are supplied auto ready as standard. This means they already include the required fittings for straightforward installation of the automatic cleaning kit.
Once installed, you can programme the cleaning cycle to run automatically at set intervals. Alternatively, you can activate a cleaning cycle manually at the push of a button. Therefore, the system remains flexible while delivering predictable and repeatable cleaning performance.
How the Gravity Automatic Cleaning Cycle Works
The kit controls a structured cleaning sequence to flush the Eazy chamber efficiently and safely.
Firstly, the timer activates the cycle. The control box then switches off the circulation pump to stabilise water levels within the filter.
Next, the automatic inlet slide plate closes. At this stage, the system redirects air from the biological chamber into the Eazy chamber. The increased air agitation vigorously cleans the K1 Micro media, dislodging trapped solids.
Simultaneously, the automatic waste valve opens. This allows dirty water and released debris to discharge to waste. After the purge stage completes, the inlet slide plate reopens for a final rinse.
Finally, the waste valve closes, the air supply returns to the bio chamber, and the circulation pump restarts. The Nexus 220+ then resumes normal filtration mode.
Because the entire process follows a controlled automated sequence, cleaning consistency improves and mechanical efficiency remains stable over time.
Compatibility and Installation
This kit is compatible with Nexus 220+ gravity fed models manufactured from 2006 onwards.
It is not suitable for pump fed Nexus systems. A separate automatic kit is available for pump fed configurations.
Installation requires connection to a mains power supply. Once installed, the cleaning cycle can be factory set to operate every 3 days. However, users can adjust the interval depending on stocking levels, feeding rates and waste production.
Because heavily stocked koi ponds produce higher waste loads, more frequent cleaning cycles may be beneficial during peak season.
